I thought this was a very fresh look at a classic character, and supremely illustrated by our host!! Bravo Mr. Byrne, cannot wait for issue 2. Blood of the Demon by the way.

Bob Simko

I just picked up Doom Patrol 10 as per our swap.

Review:

Overall, I liked it, but it reminded me of when I read the creation of this version of DP in JLA, I wasnt digging it enough to want ot continue with it. The backstory for grunt was really kind of fun, but it left me wondering why hasnt grunt learned sign language. Nudge or Push or whatever her name is, kind of grated on me, it felt a bit like she was an annoying version of Marvel Girl from the older Xmen tales. The metamorpho thing was fun but I didnt like the art on metamorpho, it wasnt as dramatic as I would have liked, the guy is stuck in a containment suit and it looks like he is having a day at the park.

Rating 6.5 out of 10 I dont mind having it and it might be better on a reread but I wasnt hooked on its first impression.

My guess would be that the brain matter the mad doctor cut out of Grunt would have also have made it impossible for Grunt to learn sign language.

That is possible... I took it as being just the speech part, as in actually the speaking part, not all of the language understanding, but I dont know the character or the human brain that well.

Yep...just got to it.

Fun to see the Duke-It-Out-Action, and I thought Connor was an interesting choice to tie into this, although it does make sense.  I've never read any of the earlier issues of this series, nor have I ever read any of the original run...I suspect some "modernizing" here, with Richard Dragon.  Reading this, though, did make me somewhat miss the old books...Master of Kung Fu, House of Yang...it was a fun ride.  I guess this series is ending with #12, but I thought it was fun enough to still get whatever will be left in the run, and maybe look to see how some of the back issues stack up.

Thanks for the tip off on this title...fun issue!
