Hello All.
Well i finally managed to pick up an issue of Doom Patrol (9) last thursday and again excuse my delay getting back here to give my opinion.
I hope whoever read the issue of New Invaders i swapped, enjoyed that despite the sad fact of that title's cancellation with issue 9.
but on with DP 9 - The art as always with Byrne was fantastic - but to be honest i found the story a little cliche and old fashioned and the characters unengaging. I didn't care personally about any of them although i was interested in Vortex a little and seeing Rita was good.
However i keep coming back to my original thought - WHY should i care about this new rebooted DP? They don't have the history so to me they seem just a bunch of uninteresting lookalikes.
The good news is that i am a fan of Metamorpho so i'll stay around for a few issues to see what happens to him and also see if the characters engage me with time.
Overall i would classify DP as what i'd call 'a solid read' - it wasn't bad, but there was nothing there to get me thinking after i'd read it - back in the old days i would give 'solid reads' a lot more lattitude because with lower prices they were affordable entertainment that accomplished a purpose - i.e a comic to read and divert me for half an hour or so. Unfortunately with the price of comics these days i can only afford to pick up comics that i REALLY like month after month.
At the same visit i got Seven Soldiers, Deadshot, JSA, Hawkman and New Invaders - all of which i reread several times and could find aspects to excite and enthrall beyond 'solid read' - but i'll give it a few months to grow on me.
