Thanks Brian I'll get in touch with the guy.

Here's a question for JB, the moderators and everybody on the board: should we open the swap to any combination of books, not just for Doom Patrol or BotD? Elsewhere, there has been much postitve reception to the idea, but a reluctance to participate because they have such low expectations of DP.

Everyone here representing DP have really demonstrated their enthusiasm and support, not just in words but through their pocketbooks. However it does seem that we are not getting many people aboard with the book, and probably never enough to generate a new "buzz" that would help sales in a real way.

Perhaps it would do more good if  "free for all" swapping here attracts more fans from the outside. This forum has so much to offer. A truly intelligent, positive, fun environment. The wit and wisdom of John Byrne and now Gail Simone and Frank Miller as well.

On the other hand this would become a rather OT thread. What do you guys say?

I like the idea of the swap just for DP or BOTD. If other boards or fans want us to buy something we may or may not like it's only fair for them to try JB's current work. They want to support their favorites, I want to support mine. I know we still have some older regular members of this board who could be new DP comic swap partners. All a fan really needs is an open mind to read something they've never tried before. I say keep pushing for new Doom Patrol readers.

Swap : Manhunter 6

I finally got this comic. Not the best of the lot I have (#1 and #5). Lots of talks, which are interesting, but concerns something I haven't read yet. I have no problem with that.

However, I really would like to know who is the bad guy Manhunter is battling? He looks like Girder (from the Flash), but you never hear his name by anyone, and his power is rather new to me (body parts can detach themselves?)

I'll have to check the other issues before reading this issue again.

I'll check #7 to see if I keep this title or not.

F.

The villain is Shrapnel.

Manhunter first faces Shadow Thief in Manhunter #3, but here he is going on trial for a crime he committed in Identity Crisis.

Regarding opening this thread up to all comics, Paul, there's nothing saying that if you open this particular forum to all comics, you can't still push your favorite book, Doom Patrol, but I see what you're saying. Perhaps if you guys wanna broaden the scope of this thread a little to attract a few more participants maybe just open it up to John's, Gail's and Frank's works. Since they are who participate here and that would keep it more on topic. Joe, perhaps you could go to some of the boards with general comics discussion and start new threads that open the swaps to all comics.

My review of Doom Patrol # 7

The one thing I love about Byrne's art is the way you simply can't mistake it for anybody else's...I appreciate individuality, and Byrne's art is unmistakably his own...
From the first page to the last, i enjoyed basking in such great images.

The book has a cool retroish vibe that I enjoy...it's straightforward superhero action that might be dismissed by some as "old fashioned" (as if that were a bad thing), especially in today's comic book biz, in which everything is about padded stories, stretched out plots and "decompressed" writing.
(imagine if you will, how the first page of the issue would've probably taken at least three in some of today's "hot" writers, to lead to the two page splash (that's five pages right there of something that Byrne has efficiently  put across in three...But I digress)

I am intrigued by Nudge...her phone interaction with her family gave some insight into her character, and i wanna know more about her....
The scene with the "ghost" raised many questions and IMO is a good example of
teasing the reader with what is surely to be an important plotline in the book down the road,
I also enjoyed the camaraderie between the Doom Patrolers...very sweet IMO, Rita sounds like a wide-eyed optimist...
I'm still confused as to who this bunch of people are and why they are together...( I wish DC had a recap page on the innersleeve of the coverpage...
But in general I enjoyed the issue tremendously.
The best IMO- The art, without a question.
The not-so-good IMO- As a new reader, I wasn't too clear as to the whys and hows of the DP.
But a good read nonetheless...made me want more and that is IMO key to hook readers...

Victor - hey man don't get it if you don't want to. We aren't all dot-com millionaires here. Most of us, including me, have a budget we have to watch - Mommy and Daddy aren't paying for our toys and such anymore !

Since one of your members came onto other boards I post on and brought this up I figure I'll do an official one with my shop as a promotion as it doesn't sell well at my shop and I hate seing comics not sell well, even ones I've been critical of...

Ok, every week I have a recommended comics section where I give an extra percentage off the book.  I won't be sticking DP there.  no, the next week DP comes out I will change it to the Doom Patrol Swap.  I will only charge cost for the issues of Doom patrol providing that before they pay they also leave the name of a book they want one of you guys to support.  Any book, even JLA.  The next time they come in for books I ask them for a review of what they read and I will post them here.  so there it is, I provide my customers with a cheap read and you provide support for their favorite books.....fun times will be had by all.  Even I shall participate.

So, you guys willing to join in?

That's a mighty generous offer there, Chris. DP fans, I'd seriously think about taking advantage of it.

Count me in for that idea, Chris.  Also, to make things a bit fairer for you, I would like to buy the comic that I am to "swap" directly from your shop, if mail order is one of the things you do. Also, it would be nice if your customer could post their review of Doom Patrol here.

Coincidentially, I was thinking of asking Mr. Matt Hawes if he wanted to get involved in the swap too, but I wasn't sure how it would work. Would this work for your shop, Matt?

I do promotions once a month where I do things like that.  however due to shipping costs I will never ask anyone to have me ship to them mainly because it would cost them a lot more in the long run. I mean really why spend $10 on a comic.....support your local store first.  I do well enough as it is.......for being in pudunk central ontario...

Currently 3 people have it on there pull list only and it barely sells off the shelf.  I'm hoping to increase the readership of it in this base because of how badly  I need to sell comics.  I was finally able to get past the retcon implication in my mind and actually see it for being a pretty good comic and I hope others can start to see it like that.  Just to let you know I will post all reviews good or bad in here as well as the other boards I am a member of.  I also won't post any with any insults or disrespect.  If someone says they can't get past the retcon that's fine but if they start screaming bloody murder I'll smack em upside the head for being stupid.....
