It's liberating to acknowledge that one can, in actuality, have everlasting life--not through metaphysics, but by way of good deeds.

Donate blood regularly. Register as an organ/tissue donor. Reach out to people in need. Donate to a worthy charity. Join others to combat institutional evil and economic exploitation.

Your legacy will echo through the centuries.

You will have meant something.

So many claims of believers rely on making a declarative statement, and then going no further:

The universe must have have come from somewhere.

Life has no purpose without a Supreme Being.

Society teaches us not to take the next logical step and ask the appropriate follow-up questions.

God made the "universe" program and "creation" happened when he clicked on the "compilate" icon.

And I am out of this discussion, why waste our time trying to prove something that cannot be proved either way, and moreover, proving or disproving will not change our lives in any way?

Because it DOES change lives, Marcio.  Women stay with abusive husbands.  Parents deny medical procedures.  Gay people are forbidden to marry.

The idea that proving or disproving the existence of a "higher power", hereinafter and in the hereafter, referred to as "God", would not "change lives" is, well absurd. It would have a profound and disturbing effect on MY life if such a deity were somehow proven to exist.

Not that I lose a whole lot of sleep over the prospect.

Saddest thing I've ever heard. It seems to me a lot of people are running around pretending life does have meaning. So  911, Columbine, and the Holocaust were all meaningless? Why are people pretending these things are unjust? There is no such thing as justice or injustice for that matter, good, evil are just different roads we take and are the same, without meaning.

I think I'm just in a bad mood today.

Kevin, I disagree.
Those things you mentioned have nothing to do with God, these are all about religion, and we don't need to prove God's existence to get rid of this, an alien spacecraft would do the trick (far more likely to happen than proven/ disproving God's existence).

Now, in my personal opinion, stupid people don't need religion to be stupid, they will continue to amaze the world with their stupidity regardless religion or God related topics.

You're landing far too far off the point to be doing so accidentally, "bad mood" or otherwise.

Life has no meaning IMPOSED UPON IT FROM THE OUTSIDE (see "We're alone in the Universe.") So we must make meaning and purpose for ourselves.
