It's neat seeing the perspective lines.

I've always loved these 'blast from the past' sequences from John. It reminds me of John's time travel arcs on JK's 4th World and Blood of the Demon.

Also loved his Elseworlds story of Kal-El during the Revolutionary war.

John handles these stories like none other: his picture perfect renderings of Humanity's History span from the Jurassic age to the far away future. Past sequences all seem so accurate and realistic. My hat to him.

That's a personal favorite of mine too and IIRC JB said in an interview he had that story on his mind for something like 15 years... kinda like what's happening with Next Men!

Wallace, yes!

I also really dig on the perspective lines running throughout the artwork.  There's something quite appealing about them that I just can't put my finger on as it could be any number of things.

I will always enjoy the pages and frame that include these the most.

JB: I'm just about to tell my LCS to cancel my standing order as I've decided to go all-digital with my comic reading. Has IDW discussed with you what the digital strategy for JBNM will be? More specifically:
  1. Will there be a digital release?
  2. If so, will it be simultaneous with the paper version?
  3. If it will not be simultaneous, what will the delay be?

JB, my question may look stupid but did you used the recent  "ANGEL/Frankenstein 2" one-shot as a training to inking the pages of Next Men in your original style?

Your inking style has evoluated of course, but I feel a great deal of resemblance in the strokes and the amount of details between the 2 of them.

Just curious...

••

Nope. In fact, I was after something different from NEXT MEN in AF2, as I had been in AF1. In those issues I wanted the inks to be very rough and think, hopefully evoking something not unlike a woodcut.

Hello,

To anyone that might be kind enough to answer these questions after recently rereading JBNM 30:

1. In JBNM 27 Ducummen forms an "uneasy alliance" with Hilltop. Then Hilltop kills him and we never know why Control had associated himself with Hilltop in the first place. Control had "kidnapped" the Next Men for his own agenda in the earliest story arc right? Why the sudden change?

2. Since Jack isn't abducted and thrown thru time in JBNM 30 does it mean we'll never see him again? According to Kirkland he becomes "Priest John Kavanagh" and reveals the existence of the NM in the history books not until the year 2032.

3. If Van Damme has always been MIV for the "past 50 years" (I quote) does it mean his origin as a recent android created by Prof Kenniston is a lie? Were all the flashback sequences about his creation a lie?

Thanks to anyone who'd like to enlighten me.

Really hard waiting for the new JBNM issue...
