1. I was wondering if it was John who'd actually written the little bios on the back of each trading card ?

2. On a different matter I just realized that there's a slim chance (or none?) we should ever see HILLTOP as SATHANAS again since he "dies" at the end of JBNM 30 when he is at the same time replaced by M4.

Indeed, according to Thomas Kirkland in JBNM 23 Sathanas makes his first appearance in the year 2025 after the "60,000 day war"...

Could he be seen after the Next Men's time travel adventure? I sincerely hope so. Sathanas is my favorite Nextmenverse character.

When it comes to Sathanas, we have seen the beginning, the end, and a little bit of the "middle", which leaves a whole lot of unexplored territory.

Whether or not I will ever go there is a whole 'nother question!

I don't remember who wrote the copy on the back of the cards. Pretty sure it wasn't me, tho!

How about a graphic novel dedicated to this "mutate war" ?

That's the 6000 day war, Joss. I too loved those 4 pages giving us a brief glimpse of the time between the Next Men's present and 2112.

" From 2009 to 2025, the human race is plunged into the most desperate situation it has ever faced. Human survival itself seems unlikely. Then, in 2025, Sathanas reveals himself..."

Really cool. A sort of mélange between H.G.Well's Things to Come and James Cameron's Terminator.

" From 2009 to 2025…"

'Course, even tho I thought I was setting my dates nicely distant, I've still caught up to some of them!

Fortunately, as some of you have, I think, already deduced, there is more to all this than immediately meets the eye!

Heh! As you also may have noticed, one of the points I have been hitting most relentlessly in the Forum, here, since the announcement of the relaunch, is that I REALLY DO HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT. I've mentioned many times that I know, and have known all along, the very last line of the series.

One of the "fun" (in the sense of nerve-racking) experiences of starting up again, as I think I mentioned, was sitting down a few months ago and pulling out of mothballs all the bits and pieces that make up the closing arcs. "What comes next? And what's after that?" For a short while -- hence the nerve-racking part -- a few of the bits and pieces remained elusive, but as I worked on the recap portions of the first issue, they served as a neat little mnemonic to get things started. As I mentioned previously, the only real change has been cutting to almost nothing the amount of time spent "walking with dinosaurs" (and THAT'S one of the reasons for a new cover for the "next" issue).

Something that was surprising for me, reviewing the previous issues as I selected the parts that were absolutely necessary for the recap, was just how much of the story was already there. I'd sown a lot of seeds, almost without realizing it in some cases!

You know, John, after my disappointing experience with the Lost Series Finale I've grown very suspicious about authors stating that they know the very last line of their story.

In the case of Lost this translated (IMO) into none of the episodes really meaning anything because in the end they all xix axx xo xo xeaxex. I might as well have just watched the finale instead of biting my nails between seasons.

Sometimes I fear your sense of humor.

Edited to add:

One of the many things I enjoyed about Next Men is that -- except for Jasmine -- all the powers come at a price, perhaps too great a price. It's one of the things that makes the series "realistic" in the super-hero genre. Superman never has to pay the price for having super-hearing, for example.

With Spider-Man the message may have been "With power comes responsibility" but with Next Men the message may be "power is a burden heroically to be borne".
