Y'know, I never thought 2112 fit in so well with the rest of JBNM. That is, unless JB ever had any plans of featuring those chainmail cops somewhere down the line.

Perhaps because I read the B&W Compleats, but I can't picture reading Next Men without 2112 first. It made perfect sense as an introduction, kind of like an extended opening sequence leading into the credits. There's mystery, action, intrigue, and just when you wonder where it's all headed suddenly it's the near-present and we're off to the races...

The flashback page features something that is one of the most memorable moments of the original series for me - when Jazz and Bethany fall into the crater hole and discover that hall of skulls. Such a creepy setting, and to find David there - one of their own, now as an unrecognizable creature. Very powerful stuff. I never forgot that over the years.

Maybe I should title the book NEXT MEN FOREVER! --- Do you think Marvel would have a problem with the title (like last time) if you did? ******** In order to reduce the chances of trouble from Marvel, the official title of the book should be JOHN BYRNE'S NEXT MEN FOREVER. This should also keep readers from getting it confused with other books like FRANK MILLER'S NEXT MEN FOREVER.

I see them as one now, as well. Even though I had read a lot of Next Men before I read 2112.
Wasn't the art lost by Dark Horse for 2112? That's the reason I assumed it wasn't in the first hardback. I think it was discussed here on the forum that the "Compleat" phone book has the grey tones because of Dark Horse.
I want to make a public plea to the folks at Dark Horse who lost the art to 2112. C'mon, guys - can you please find the art? JB doesn't work with you now, but he helped put you on the map with a lot of readers when you folks were just getting started. It's got to be somewhere - it can't have vanished off the planet.

They didn't lose the art, they lost the FILM.

This is some great stuff I'm seeing and I'm guessing I haven't seen anything yet.

Just finished re-reading JBNM 6: I didn't remember Hilltop was feeding Sathanas with his own wives. How evil and creepy. I think Hilltop is probably the meanest villain I've ever seen in comics: even guys like Luthor, Doom or Magneto can sometimes show honor and respect. JB created Hilltop a worthy heir of Satan(as).

Volume 3 is about 1/2 inch larger than Volume 2.
3 books - 3 different sizes.
What we need is TWO volumes in an "Absolute" size format after JB has finished the series. Then we can book-end each volume with 2112.

Great sneak peeks!
So, Jack's back with the rest of the team... at some point at least. Nice.

I've started reading the series for the first time and I'm up to issue 9. Very good stuff. The first arc reminded me of the type of "mystery" based serial fiction thats rather popular right now. I could see "Next Men" working as a TV show and succeeding in a way Heroes never did.
