Yes but in a different order - the first part was Interlude - and in black and white.

Started re-reading Next Men this week, I wonder how many of us on this forum are currently reading this.

I still maintain that this was one of the, if not THE, best comic I have ever read.

I'm going to be very interested to see how you all respond/react to the "new" NEXT MEN. Just as I dumped just about every thought I'd ever had about superheroes into the original series (ironically producing something that was not really a superhero book), I will be doing much the same with time travel in the new stuff. I guess that means I will end up producing something that has very little to do with time travel!!

I know I am.  I started a couple of weeks ago on the first Premier volume collection in color, then switched to the Compleat collection with issue 11.  Up to #28.  Hadn't read these in an age.  Still a really fascinating comic with characters I really care about.  For instance, yesterday I got to the point where Sandy's projection/avatar throws her brother Tom out the window.  I found myself feeling really bad for a guy who only made a three or four page appearance.  I'm also feeling sorry for Jazz.  I had forgotten what a wringer she was put through.  Of all the Next Men, she's the one that engenders the most sympathy from me because she feels the most innocent, more innocent even than the younger Danny.

I'm sure I'll wrap up tonight, so it'll be a long wait for #31 in December!  I've waited this long, however, so I think I can do it for another four months...but no longer!!!!

I have all the single issues but figure I'll wait to start rereading it until November. That way everything will still be fresh in my mind when the new stuff starts up.

I take this as a very good news: I always thought it's almost impossible do to a good AND right time travel story.
I'm a stupid "cause->effect" fan, I know.

That's my plan. I hope to have all three hardcovers by the first week of that month, so I'll probably read those instead of pulling the individuals or phonebooks out of storage if they haven't been unpacked.

••

The fun thing about time travel is that there are no set rules. If I do a story with, say, a 747, it better dang well do what 747s do, unless there is some clearly explained reason, within the story, why it isn't!

But since there's no such thing as time travel (yet!) a writer is free to make up his/her own rules, and as long as s/he sticks to those rules, everything will be fine. (This is why James Cameron does better time travel stories than JJ Abrams. In THE TERMINATOR, Cameron set up his rules, followed them, and then followed them again in T2. But Abrams treats time travel like it's a Get Out of Jail Free card.)

Hey, that doesn't always apply even in the REAL universe! So in fiction, all bets are off!

JB, did you ever consider going with a different name for the book?

I'm still excited about this news! December seems a long way away but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. Crazy how much time has passed since this series was out.

Please, do not hold your breath in the wait.
Anyway, we travel in time every moment, just in one way!

In THE TERMINATOR, Cameron set up his rules, followed them, and then followed them again in T2.

This kind of story remind me "The Appointment in Samarra" story: you can't change anything because everything is (more or less) written.
So the paradoxes are... less evident.
If well done these stories can be good and almost right.

[About "cause->effect"]

Hey, that doesn't always apply even in the REAL universe!

**

An example, please.

"An Appointment in Samarra" is one of the short stories I liked to use when I
discussed figurative language with my students.
