I just finished the Compleat Next Men volumes. I bought them months ago but hadn't started reading them until the news of the return came along. This was the first time I've read NEXT MEN since reading the issues brand new as they were released. Bravo! I'd forgotten how good it was! Sure I remembered the basics, but there were so many little things I had forgotten about or maybe not even noticed since I was a lot younger then. I'm looking forward to the rebirth of the series even more than before.

I just got volume one of the premiere editions released by IDW a few days ago and am having the same experience that Aaron posted. I had gotten rid of my issues years ago due to space and money issues and was hoping to re-collect them in trade. The timing worked out perfect. These collections are great. I am enjoy this first volume so much, that I am looking to order the next volumes right now. May wait a couple of weeks so I can get 2 and 3 together. Early b-day present for me.

If only someone could convince Starbucks to carry Comics, I would be there every day!•• Hmm. I am sure a lot of comic readers are coffee drinkers, since so many are so much older than the general audience used to be, but I wonder if there is enough "cross-over" to make such an idea practical from Starbucks' perspective? I'm reminded of a few decades back when Marvel was setting up a deal to be distributed by the same folk who handled the NATIONAL ENQUIRER. Everywhere you saw that tabloid, you would see a spinner rack with Marvel comics. Marvel's regular distributors got wind of this and talked the Powers That Were out of it, promising that they, too, would be able to guarantee such a wide distribution if they were given the chance. Never happened, of course.

Comics in the coffeehouse would be perfect.

Having well-written, well-drawn all-ages comics in school libraries/media centers would be nice.

Best bet would be all-ages comics (which Marvel and DC should be in their superhero lines, but let's not digress into that particular argument) at supermarket checkouts, convenience stores, and maybe even family restaurants.
Marvel and DC should just take issues they've already published - like with their $1.00 1st issue lines - package three together, and sell it for five bucks. Superman Special #1 contains Superman issues 650-652. Five bucks. Superman Special #2 has 653-655. Superman Special #3 might have 656-657 and an issue of Action Comics. So on and so forth.
5 bucks. It's reprints, it's fairly current, they've already made their money on the single issues through the Direct Market, and they've already had trade sales through the same and bookstores. Now, they're getting NEW readers for cheaper.

I don't know how the system works, but is it even possible for a place like Starbucks to decide to start carrying comics without going through a bunch of red tape these days?

You could buy three random comics in a slim plastic bag for a discounted price, but the way they were packaged only allowed you to see two of the covers. It could be both exciting and frustrating not knowing what the third comic might be until after you tore into the bag.

I just read the four part storyline introducing NEXT MEN in the pages of DHP for the first time in about a decade.
I am so excited this is coming back! Truly a dream come true.
