JB, I would love to see your favorite page you posted above scanned in to the gallery at hi-res. I think it deserves a special place there as your favorite NM page! I think I can see why it is your favorite - it is so rich and dense - it has a very tactile feel to it - really puts us 'there'. We can feel what that world is like and it pulls you right in. I love the bulky clothing - I feel chilly just looking at them. It is also refreshing to see a page full of characters not in skintight costumes. It is an inspired work of art and such things really are too subtle to explain well in words. *edit to add* - Looking at it a bit more - I think there is something definitely Rembrandt-ish you are channeling. If he were alive today drawing comics, this might be very close to what they would look like. At the very least, he would be a Byrne fan after seeing this page if he wasn't before!

JB, I think it was neat the way Donna and Walker (from WHIPPING BOY) appeared in JBNM. Are there any more fictional characters from other sources who exist as "real" characters in the world of Next Men?

JB: One of the things a lot of readers didn't seem to pick up on was that NEXT MEN was set "in the future". Coincidentally just started rereading the series a few days before this announcement; Tony Murcheson's father was killed in Viet Nam when she was 3, if I recall, and her husband was murdered by Soviets (or so it was implied). Would this "future" be our present day? Or will the next issue be jumping ahead the linear timeline to another ambiguously dated future? Control was an old guy already, I'd miss him if the latter were the case. Edit: like I said, rereading the series. It occurs to me I can't remember how the series leaves Control at the end, but I have a nagging feeling I may have said something stupid...

If I recall correctly, there is a line in 2112 that the "trigger gene" went public "over a hundred years ago." Wouldn't that place Next Men #1 in the next few years?

After flipping through some of the G4 TV coverage of the convention, I had that familiar sour taste in my mouth, and quickly changed the channel.
THIS, however, is news that will get me reading comic books again!
I wonder if I remember how to get to my LCS?

Thanks for the great news! I working the convention all weekend, so I didn't hear most of the big announcements until I got home (except for the Fantagraphics announcement about Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse reprints, which happened at a panel I was moderating).
The cool thing about this news is that I didn't hear about it online, but read it when I was flipping through USA Today at the airport on my way home. There was a big picture of the Rocketeer painted by Alex Ross along with IDW's other big convention news, and JB's return to Next Men got a very enthusiastic mention by whomever was writing the article.

Getting this news is like Christmas in July.
Think I'll celebrate by reading my brand new (to me, anyway) copy of WHIPPING BOY.

First time poster, long time lurker. Had to join up to say how pleased I am to see JBNM back up and running. I literally just finished the run the night I came across the announcement. In total acceptance of my repetitive addition to the above... I'm very excited! Thanks for bringing them back, Mr. Byrne. It really is a fantastic series.
