"Trevor -- sorry. I've been a little distracted this week."

**

Sorry JB, that was a bit of an ill-timed joke, on
consideration.

The Next Men, never really clicked with me. I'll have to give them a second look.

I am still amazed by the way life brings bad news and good news almost always at the same time : I buried my brother Saturday morning, the same day I discovered this fantastic new.

Thank you so very much JB, after these 15 years!

Go on keeping us dreaming and entertained...

JB,

In the past you've said that Next Men had about twenty issues left to run before it was completed. Is that still the plan?

YEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!

If I were a religious fellow, I believe I would be down on the ground thanking whatever deities I believed in right about now.

And I thought I was giddy with anticipation back in the days of anticipating the publishing of FX. That ain't got nuthin' on this!

And catching up on the thread so far (after an initial shout out of pure joy):

Jodi wrote:
"Great news on not having to back track, I HATE when I have to do that, it is overwhelming when starting something. Bravo!"

Oh, Jodi, you may not have to... but I promise you that you want to. If you haven't read them already, there are simply 30 issues (+ 2112) filled of pure comics joy for you to delve into.

Wallace wrote:
"I'm glad that readers will be able to jump on board with issue #31 without first having to read anything else. However, I really hope that those who haven't read the first 31 issues of JBNM (and/or 2112) will be 'triggered' by the new stuff, and become inspired to pick up the collections at some point. I want as many people as possible to experience those incredible Next Men stories!"

Given that it's only 30 issues, nicely collected (in b/w or colour) these days, I would be mighty surprised if it didn't happen, Wallace. Maybe not every reader, but most of the ones turning regular at least. Simply because of the easy availability and the limited amount material (2 b/w collections or 3 colour HCs is quite limited after all).

JB wrote:
"These guys should be tossed into a time machine and sent back to 1956, where they would be forced to write 'jumping on point' stories THREE TIMES PER ISSUE!!! Gun to their heads, I'll bet most of these wankers could not write an eight page, done in one story."

I'm kind of thinking you'd appreciate the efforts of this Swedish guy called Kim W. Andersson whose work I read recently. He does this comic called Love Hurts (English title even Swedish) and while I read a collection, he's had the stories published elsewhere earlier. And each story is between 2 and perhaps up to 6 or possibly 8 pages. Each one a small romantic horror story with a twist (sometimes admittedly a bit bloody and all that, but nevertheless fun enjoyable BRIEF stuff).

JB also wrote:
"I have said for years that I was waiting for the marketplace to recover enough that I felt I could bring the book back without it sinking without so much as a ripple. I fear that -- the marketplace recovery -- is never going to happen, so when Chris Ryall said 'How about NEXT MEN?' for the 437th time, I said 'Okay.'"

At this moment I could almost kiss Chris Ryall for asking you those 437 times. We are obviously indebted to the man.
(And thank you, JB, for that okay.)

More JB:
"As I have mentioned on more that one occasion, reading those old six and eight page stories with an adult eye and mind, I became aware of how very, very TERSE they are. Talk about fat free!"

While reading Marvel Essentials (especially the older stuff, like Dr Strange, etc), I've often been struck by the fact that Lee et al mostly managed to put more story substance into one of those 8-pagers than a lot of modern day comics writers/artists manage to put into a full-length five-parter. Decompression is thinning the soup to the extent where fat isn't even a good analogy any more (after all, a little fat can be a good thing in cooking).

And some final JB:
"I took a look at the list, thought 'Avenger's cast is gonna take this' then clicked on their link to the votes so far."

Well, I just cast my vote, and you were in the top three at least. And the difference between yourself and the second place (at this point in time) was less than a full percent.

And for the record, this was a great and awesome way to start my week. Yay!!!
