I suppose it could be argued that we also saw a gradual change in the Thing. It was strictly artistic, not a deliberate choice like I made with Doc, buy since the Thing's changing appearance was retconned into something that actually happened, we could assume that the cosmic rays ran riot with Ben's body at first, and only gradually did he adjust and adapt.

Q. for JB-- I have been trying to be good about making guesses that if they turned out to be accurate, would prove spoilerish. I mean, if I had the ultimate spoiler about what is going to happen in the next Spider-Man movie, who here would really give a crap? But since this is the John Byrne board, we should probably take special care not to spoil what's coming out soon that is so close to all of our hearts (loyal fans as we all are). So this is my Question, my dear Mr. Byrne: Would you consider it spoilerish to merely speculate that a very minor character seen only in flashback may play a MAJOR role in the story to come. Heh, heh, heh.

In the meantime, this is surely fair game for discussion. Vulcan, Fear, Hercules, Jorgensen, and Ignis. What really happened there? Where did Ignis and Jorgensen really go? The Omega project was clearly starved for funding and resources. Jorgensen's reality was clearly shown to be far, far, from the idyllic state of technology and resources of the illusion-world provided him by Ignis. There's no way there really was a rocket equipped and provisioned to take them to another world. Perhaps they retreated to some deep underground sub-basement bunker. I think what Ignis really needs to do is find some folks willing or manipulated to help provide real machinery that will provide back-up and support to his illusions.

I'm curious to see whether characters from earlier JBNM arcs (like Parallel) will be seen in the new series. But with the time travel saga coming soon I doubt it (or do I?)

Would you consider it spoilerish to merely speculate that a very minor character seen only in flashback may play a MAJOR role in the story to come. •• Given the long timeline and broad scope of NEXT MEN, how can you determine whether any character is "very minor"?

"Very Minor"-- Wrong term. Substitute "Little seen character" or "shown only in a few panels character." Myself, I am very excited about the continuation of the story after fifteen years, and it provides great entertainment to me guess and speculate privately about potential plot points with my limited ability for precognition. And this seems like the place where one might go crazy with discussions about the story. But at the same time, I want to respect the right of others to enjoy the surprises you have planned without spoilage. I am the guy who just realized a few weeks ago in this thread the nature of Sandy's death. Tells you how much I may be missing in this dense story without the help of the parsing of others in the letter columns or in the forum. D'oh! But when I do realize something about the story, I find I can barely contain my excitement!

…derivative super heroes/faux reality like in Next Men…•• You're working a little bit too hard there.

I appreciate the warning -- not "working" anything, honestly, just expressing a thought. I'll have to get that editor to work harder, the one that is supposed to work between my brain and my fingers.

My mum always used to tell me that wishes are free, Nathan. And I'd second that particular wish. JBNM and DU are quite different animals, I think, and the world needs both them. In my humble opinion.

I just read DU the other day (found all 4 issues at a con last weekend). Count me as one of the people who wants to see an issue 5.

Small drop in the comics ocean but I dropped by at the shop which has my order for JBNM. The guy told me he had placed my order alright. He also told me there was 12 definite orders and he had rounded it to 15 for the shop. When I first entered the shop in October there, neither the owner nor the customers present were aware of JBNM's return.
