The redesign of the redesign is no doubt better, but it's just the classic outfit with some unneeded and not very appealing add-ons. I could live with the more ornate belt and bracelets, but the choker, gloves and (uhh ..) spurs are silly looking.

The fan redesign definitely scales back the "club girl" look of Jim Lee's design. I like it better, but doesn't it seem more Wonder Girl than Wonder Woman? I know one of the quotes from Jim Lee's interview was something to the effect of "we don't want it to scream superhero," which of course is precisely what Wonder Woman's costume should do.

I don't really care about DC and much less WW, but this is like when they threw away their AWESOME DC bullet logo. It's aggravating, it's like watching an adult trying to complete a fit the shapes into a ball puzzle and they're sawing off the edges of a star shape instead of putting it in the star shaped entrance. Maybe I'm the crazy one, but WW seems like such a simple character to handle as is.

Already mentioned by others in this thread, purely from a business and marketing point of view, why would you mess with a known property in this way?Spider-Man's black costume from the 80's is a good example - not a bad redo as such, but not viable given Spider-Man is so well-known, so it was only temporary. Small changes to 'modernize' a design, yes. Wholesale changes for the sake of change, no.

Well that answer is clear: when was the last time Wonder Woman had this much mainstream attention? Hell, when was the last time she had this much attention even from the isolated and tiny comic book community?
It's a cheap publicity stunt to get some media attention. It's as much a sad commentary on the news media as anything, when a press release becomes news.

This media attention is short term and won't last. Building a well-known brand and maintaining it takes years, sometimes decades. When all the fuss and hype is gone, how many new people will have started reading Wonder Woman due to the hype, versus those who have always been Wonder Woman fans and are put off by the change?

Could it be that DC employees start work every morning saying "hey let's look at what Marvel did last week for some great ideas!" And do Marvel employees do the same, but with a dog-eared copy of Watchmen?
