Is there no option to reuse the nuclear plant waste in a lesser application, or is it truly spent?

And, I'm no rocket scientist, but drilling on land, anywhere, has to be better than doing it 5000 plus feet under water. Even in 500 feet of water, this mess would be old news by now (at least one would hope).

Remember back in 05 - 08, whenever a hurricane or the mere mention of one in the Gulf of Mexico would make the price of gas rise about 10 - 30 cents?

With this leak reaching 50 days now, the price of oil has dropped 15-30 cents here in Central MD.

My how times have changed!!!!!

This really sucks!!

BP's here are selling easily 10 cents under everyone else, and they look empty most of the time.

Well. Let's factor some things in - yes, based on track record, the gas prices should go up - the oil conglomerates got away with raising the prices everytime someone farted in Syria, so, why not keep returning to that well?

On the other hand, this situation only effects one company, BP, and they're not losing their existing supply of oil, they just lost their future supply of oil - who knowsm, that well might've gone dry anyway - etc.

Now, having said that, they're losing billions in trying to contain and clean it up, that's a fact, and according to noted economist Sean Hannity, it's the responsiblity of the "free market" to pass on the costs to you, the "piss-ant" consumer, who must cower in fear of the free market attacking you, much akin to an abused wife.

That part is true - we are a nation of beaten wives, defending the guys beating us while quietly nursing our wounds and fearing the next beating. That's very true.

But here's the bright side to this - whereas there are regulations in place stopping BP from having to pay too much in damanges, there is no limit to civil cases, and those are expected to bankrupt BP, so... one less evil oil company. So, there's that!

I find them quite beautiful. Almost a zen quality about them.

Me too! I have some on the hill behind my house, and if they make a lot of noise, I've never heard it. Plus I think they look neat when shilouetted against the sky.

Said voices used to post to this very Board... Why the silence?

Chris Back was banned. The cut down on the useless chatter quite a bit.

Brian (and JB) - You know, for a guy who reads comic books, I never even thought of "shoot it into the Sun" as a solution for nuclear waste. I'm hanging my head in shame on that one, it's a bloody awesome idea.

Here's hoping one of the rockets carrying the payload never explodes in the atmosphere, though. That'd a "spill" I wouldn't want to clean up for sure. Aside from that, nuclear waste being sent to the largest reactor in the Solar System makes perfect sense. It's literally sending it where it can do no harm.

I say we call Mr. Burns and start building more plants right after we set up and test the program for getting rid of the waste. Let's not put our carts before the horse this time!

On wind turbines - I've never seen a working one, but I saw the parts to build them (blades, etc) being sent by train a couple years ago. Those things are freaking HUGE! One blade was the length of two railroad cars!

Considering the protests that were raised over the nuclear content of NASA's Cassini space probe, I shudder to think of the reaction to blasting nuclear waste into space, not to mention the billions of dollars it would cost.

Of all the oil companies, BP was the one which cultivated a "green" image. And they were probably more serious about renewable energy than say Exxon. So it's kind of ironic that they caused one of the biggest environmental disasters of all.

What do they do with nuclear waste now?  There is your answer.
