Jodi, do you consider nuclear power to fall beneath the umbrella of alternative energy? Because much the same as you, I consider anyone who has scorned and opposed expansion of our nuclear infrastructre, to be a big part of this event. I will part with you on your on your belief in man-made global warming, as well as any suggestion of any kind of global climate stability, but for the life of me, I will never understand a why a person of such belief would ever oppose nuclear energy.

You don't believe man contributes to climate change, Joseph?

I love the cover and wish Aquaman were more popular so that the image--a more iconic one in an alternate universe--would go viral on the Interwebs.

Aren't the oil companies in the majority of those who are against wind farms? I recall several 'higher ups' condeming them because of an unforseen environmental impact... Or were those the environmentalists...? Heck, I can't keep 'em straight anymore.

There's a 'no wind farms' movement around these parts that I find absolutely idiotic.

I live in Massachusetts and commute to Cape Cod often. I find it hard to accept people opposing clean energy over a "pristine view from my mansion" attitude. Thank you Ted Kennedy.

In much the same way that I don't believe in a god, Al; I have yet to see anything to convince me otherwise, and wanting such evidence, to my mind, such a belief runs intuitively contrary to the admitedly circumstantial evidence of constant climate change found in geological records. To be certain, however, I feel no antipathy for those who hold a contrary belief, but much like social legislation based on religious values, I'm vigilantly opposed to draconian legislation such as cap and trade, based on a belief in man-caused climate change.

I'm a proponant of Nuclear power - my studies have shown that it's the cleanest most efficiant fuel. Granted, when it goes wrong, it goes really wrong, but I would suggest that it be rolled out with heavy regulations, not the laughable regulations that let this happen with oil.I do hope that people have the common sense to see this for what it is. How well did the forces of the Free Market handle this? How's that drill baby drill working out for you? Having said that - people also fell for the rising prices back in summer 08 - rising prices at the pump... (wait for it...) WHILE THE OIL COMPANIES WERE MAKING RECORD PROFITS. They cried and told us that they just had to raise prices! The cost of a barrel of oil was higher so it gets passed on to you, the dumb-shit walking ATM - er, I mean, consumer. Yet, if they were making record high profits, they could absorb the cost of the barrel of oil in the short term. But no - Americans paniced and worried about the well being of billionaires who could give two shits if you live or die, and are only concerned with wringing the last few cents from your dried up corpses. Whew... feels good to get that off my chest..

Mike - what do you propose to do with all the nuclear waste that comes from nuclear power? Not only is it more garbage for the landfill, so to speak, but said landfill will remain deadly for millions of years in some cases.
That having been asked, I agree with everything else you say. If there are two of us, there are probably more of us, and maybe eventually we'll be able to convince those who don't understand how preventable and sick this entire disaster has been that there's a better way.

Before someone mentions "Oh, it'll cost too much"
I never understood why every new house that's built isn't automatically built with solar panels (or new apartment or office buildings either).
Could you imagine if at your home right now you had solar batteries. NOT as your primary source of energy, you would still have oil or gas, but it would drastically cut down on each individual home owners' use of oil or gas. Not only that, but by having the ability to store energy, the next time your home is hit with a terrific thunderstorm or snow storm and your power goes out, you have something to cover your outage while the utility companies are fixing the problem.
We have a pulsating ball of fire in the sky delivering energy to all living creatures in this planet and it won't run out (for a very long time) and it won't leak to wipe out wildlife.
Why aren't we doing this?
Because someone, somewhere can't make a boat load of money off of it. And *gasp* the oil, natural gas and coal companies would then not be able to make OBSCENE profits anymore. Oh, they'll still make profits, but not obscene ones.

There's a 'no wind farms' movement around these parts that I find absolutely idiotic.•• Are they afraid wind is a non-renewable resource? I ask only partly in jest. Years ago I briefly dated a young woman with whom I had approximately the following conversation one day: SHE: All this garbage and pollution! What can we do about it? ME: I guess we could load all the garbage into rocket ships and fire them into the Sun! SHE: Wouldn't that knock it down?
