What does it tell you when bottled water is more expensive by volume than gasoline, after all.

Partly. But it's primarily because oil really is a cheap, bountiful energy source.

I'm all for alternative energy, but it's going to cost.

If the fear of nuclear could be removed and used breeder reactors we have more than enough doestic sources of  fuel to go nuclear. I'm all for taking the subsidies and tax breaks used now on alternative fuels and stuff like ethanol and building more nuclear power plants. The dangers are blown way out of proportion to the value we would get from not importing oil imo.

Not in the UK. Bottled water is around £0.80, petrol is around £1.20.

But then, tap water is around £0.001 so why drink bottled water anyway (Especially in the home, but that's a different discussion).

Here in Canada, gas is in the 90¢/litre range.  Bottled water is in the $1.50-$2.00/litre range.

Agreed. Bottled water is a scam and an environmental and health hazard, due to the bottles which are ultimately a product of the oil industry.

I'm really starting to believe that these idiots at BP just don't get it and they just don't give a damn about what has happened.  Please read this article and you'll be shaking you head just like I did!

Unless the abiogenic origin hypothesis is proven correct someday, Thomas Gold was thought wrong about other theories that proved right later, of course he was proven wrong too...

I need to apologise about my water post above - 80p is the price for 500 ml.

A litre costs around £1.50 and so bottled water is more expensive that petrol.

I have a friend that is having Solar panels installed...the company is picking up the cost of installation in exchange for the tax rebates...my friend will be missing the rebates that he wouldn't have gotten anyway, and lowering his electric bill by as much as 70%.

The company Chuck works for, is installing solar panels on the roof of their factory. The Obama environmental incentives are making it possible, which is really cool.  I have never understood why that hadn't happened before, makes so much sense.
