Greg - it was a joke - I was making a play on words with the phrase.

Along with the thousands you mention, the eleven who died in the initial explosion would probably like to have their lives back too. His "life back" comment was incredibly stupid following an incident where people lost their lives...

After the "life back" comment, the yachting thing is almost quaintly non-offensive. It's the cumulative effect that makes people so angry.

That we should build a time machine, travel back 20 years, and make Exxon pay as much as BP? ______________________________________________________ No, but we should be addressing the chronic issues and not just the big 'flash in the pan', media worthy ones. The chronic issues do far more damage in the long run, both environmentally and socially, than these one offs. No one is even showing the slightest will to address or even acknowledge these.

Boycott BP until they actually manage to stop the leak.

James, I don't understand how this BP thing is a one-off and not chronic. All things considered, my children who haven't even been born yet are probably going to be dealing with the consequences of this. I'd call that "chronic enough" to warrant some fairly severe penalties.
Considering they aren't getting the relief wells drilled until August (thank Obama for saying TWO not just one in case there's another problem with one of them!) there's still plenty of time for millions of more gallons to leak out, wipe out fragile environments completely, and possibly even get into the Gulf stream in which case hello entire East Coast!

There's also the impending threat of toxic rain.

The only way a boycott of BP will work is to boycott gasoline altogether. Their gas-station franchise is only a part of their operations.

my wife and I were talking about this yesterday, of course while driving. Bp is at fault, but it's easy for me to blame them but isn't my life style contributing to the need for oil. If I'm not willing to make changes in my own life(less driving) then aren't I part of the problem?

It isn't like there are a lot of alternatives. Big Oil has a stranglehold on the globe. We've been hearing about ethanol, electric power, etc. for years (and politicians have been promising alternate energy for years) but none have ever taken hold. And that's because of people like the parasites that run BP.
WATCHMEN (the movie, if not the book) compared oil to drugs and the oil cartels as the pushers. That's a very fitting comparison, I think.

"And that's because of people like the parasites that run BP."----- Partly. But it's primarily because oil really is a cheap, bountiful energy source.
I'm all for alternative energy, but it's going to cost.

It's because of its cheapness that it's being "pushed."
