I remember fondly his column in 80s DC books; he seemd to have a down-to-earth vibe with a genuine passion for the medium.

Thank you for everything, sir, and have a good afternoon (sigh).

Thanks Eric for sharing that. I guess we do the best we can. It's been since '83, so this is going back a ways now. Hope all is well with you and your family.

New York Times obituary mentions JB and "Man of Steel":

Were projects like The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen considered controversial at the time?

Given the breadth of his time there, Giordano was nothing less than one of the top two or three most important DC guys of the past 30 years... a highly gifted inker, editor and cover artist of countless great 70s and 80s comics in particular.  I'll remember him most for his outstanding BATMAN work, especially with Adams, but also on his own or with Irv Novick, Dick Dillin, etc.  He did great work on Green Lantern and the Flash, too, as well as pitching in on countless other DC projects, always producing a great line.  The controversy surrounding his farming out some of his work does not diminish his own talents, nor does it make even the subcontracted stuff any less worth reading.  I can't recall a poorly done story with Giordano's name on it.  Never met the man but I feel like I knew him through his editorials and especially through his body of artwork.  A terrible loss.

One of the symbols of the DC Style.

Sad news, I'll deeply miss him.
