Brad,
On the subject of guns in America, I remember when I was in University and made a road trip south from Toronto to Florida for spring break, on our way back across the border into Canada across the road I saw this first-stop-you-make-entering-the-US store on the American side with a huge billboard on the roof that read (I kid you not) Beer and Ammo.
The Canadian in me was horrified, the marketing opportunist part of my psyche screamed "Forget 7/11 -- THAT'S the name for a nationwide chain of convenience stores in the US!" The jingle still rattles in my head from all those years ago:
No need to fear You'll find it here At the Beer and Ammo Store!
Or the potential slogans:
Don't go off half-drunk and half-cocked. Get fully loaded at the Beer and Ammo Store!
Kevin,
The reason we don't allow handguns in Canada is because of all the associated healthcare costs that the government doesn't want to cover. You know, like Dad hearing a bump in the night and firing off a couple of rounds before realizing it was only Johnny up for a glass of water. Or like letting Mr. Smith and Weston (or Mr. Heckler and Koch?) settle the argument over who cut whom off in traffic.
Of course, our medics are at a slight disadvantage in times of war due to their unfamiliarity with gun shot wounds, but hey, you win a few, you lose a few...
Mike,
Now that I've angered both the pacifists and the concealed-carry lot, getting things squared away for San Diego today reminded me: Are you leaning toward heading off to WonderCon in San Francisco? If you are, I'm running the three urchins around there on Saturday, April 3, so perhaps we might be able to connect for lunch or a beer after the day is done. It would be nice to start putting some faces to the names on the JBF.
