Gosh, Jodi, first campaigning for a Republican, now considering joining the Tea Party. Next thing you know, you'll be moving your assets to Dubai...

LOL yeah my husband and I are going tonight and buy matching guns.
All the R's will be proud to know the guys campaign sign is sitting in my yard right now for all the world to see. The thing is, he is actually a border line tea party guy, but he actually protested about out of control spending when Bush was in.
I have been going to town council meetings for years trying to get spending under control at the local govt level. If the tea party people were just out there upset about that and having meaningful discussions, I would not be so angry with them. My problem is, they have morphed into a violence promoted, anti democrat, racist, paranoid hate machine.

Then Jodi, let's co-opt the movement: We'll form the Herbal Tea Party! We'll be against out-of-control spending with a mellow blend of peaceful protest, polite discourse, positive solutions... and a hint of cinnamon.

It's the morphing that has me scared because like any kind of political movement in history, things start out civil enough but soon the extremists take over and suddenly even the founders of the movement aren't seen as hardcore enough. Given some of the more dubious reasons for this movement to begin with, that makes things doubly troublesome.
It's a little weird watching a whole movement of people label educated and intelligent citizens as elitists while almost extolling the virtues of remaining completely ignorant to the world around themselves, so much so that they can be led by the simple and deceptive rhetoric of Glorious Godfrey and Sean Hannity.

Could not resist temptation for jest. Please fogive me.)

But Matthew Pelosi isn't putting gun sights on maps using shooting terminology to target people she doesn't agree with.
You come across on here as a very thoughtful, reasonable person, that is either a republican or is right leaning. You remind me of another good guy on here, named Geoff Gibson. You guys are what I like to call republicans from the Grand Old party. Being a republican you will have different ideas from me, on what is best for our country, but we agree on many things, just maybe the how we get there, isn't always the same. But I believe we can have a civil, sometimes passionate discussions on issues.
Pelosi and Obama are not way out there democrats, Obama is what I would call a moderate democrat, he is not by any stretch a liberal democrat, but he has been painted by the fringe as all sorts of, out there names. But this fringe that fox keeps ratcheting up, is beyond anything I have ever seen in scariness. Possibly the very radical anti war movement of the 60's or the black panthers could be comparable. My husband is an accountant and he has to go to the IRS on a fairly regular basis and he said with all the anti-govt. talk from the right, he is somewhat leery to go to the IRS offices.
We democrats can talk all day, but until those in the tea party movement that are good people with reasonable complaints, step up and disown the violent rhetoric, it will only get worse and someone, maybe many, will be killed because of it.

Who wouldn't be considering attacks on the IRS are being lauded and Hannity is going around calling people McVeigh wannabes like that's a good thing?

I'm baffled by the outrage that these people have, over a law that helps ensure every American has health care coverage. I can understand why some might disagree with it, but the venom and outrage some people have is mind boggling. Oddly enough, none of these people were outraged when the government decided to spend billions fighting a war to defend us from "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that didn't even exist. So obviously, they don't object to wasteful government spending. The only conclusion I can come up with is that since minorities are less likely to have decent health coverage, the "Tea Bag" crowd is up in arms because their perception that money is being taken from the Whites to help out the Blacks.

Can you produce some stats showing that minorities are less likely to have decent health coverage?

The targets are not on the faces of the actual congressmen/senators. I have HBO so occasionally I catch Bill Maher saying something really stupid. Last night I heard him again trying up that there is only one party bull plop. The last decade showed what a load of plop that is. The last year has showed that. Im tired of playing all this both sides are bad. The Republicans are worse and its not even close. Its comparing Ted Bundy to a wife beater. The wife beater is far from a hero, but he sure as fudge is not a serial killer.
