When I am introduced at parties as a "comicbook artist" the most common response from civilians is "Are those still being published?" _________________________ That's bad. When I tell people I am comic book collector there is always someone asking exactly the same question. And I say of coursre they're being published! It kind of bothers me more than it should...

Has anyone pointed out here that Bob Iger, the CEO and top-dog at Disney is the Great-Nephew (edit: not grandson as I thought earlier) of Jerry Iger? Jerry Iger of Eisner & Iger? As in one of the first shops to hire Jack Kirby?
That's unbelievable! I wish I could read Will Eisner's reaction.
Here's a page Eisner did immortalizing the breakfast date when Eisner coaxed Iger into starting a comic book company with him-- at a time when almost no one was doing original content for comics.

Well it looks like Sony has relinquished the rights to any animated series including the current SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN. Reading that Sony did this to get "some concession vis-a-vis the live action Spider-Man features." Not sure what Sony is actually getting on the live action end but I am sure more will come out when it is time.

There's no LOST comic, Jodi, but there was a FRINGE mini and the Damon Lindelof Hulk vs Wolverine mini was kind of entertaining.

It was on the French news yesterday and nothing was said about comics, the report focussed on the fact that now, Marvel Superheroes could appear in Disney parks. parks. there was also an (old) interview of Stan Lee speaking about the need to break the movie business for marvel.

I doubt that any Marvel character will make its way into any Disney park with the exception of Disney Studios or California Adventure. Unless they open a fifth gate in Orlando or a third in Anaheim we won't be seeing Marvel characters walking around Disney. As I mentioned before regarding movies, Sony, Paramount, Fox & Universal all hold the rights to make movies using Marvel characters. Until the contracts expire, Disney may not be producing any Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk or Iron Man movies for possibly ten years.

Craig, why do you say there won't be any Marvel characters in the parks? I don't get it.
How about movies featuring Daredevil, Cap, Thor, Avengers, Namor, Doctor Strange, FF, Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, Black Panther etc that could be used in great movies?
Also, how will they handle the Avengers if Hulk and Iron-Man are bound in different contracts, if the Avengers end up in a Disney contract?

I think it's true that there's been talk of Disney buying Marvel for some time, but I don't think THE INCREDIBLES is an indication of that. It wasn't Disney proper that made that movie.

Sorry I'm late in reviewing this thread, and I haven't read all the posts, but a couple of questions (sorry if they were already addressed): 1. What will happen with Universal's Islands of Adventure Marvel Island? 2. Do the current Marvel comics still have "Stan Lee proudly presents..." on the splash page? Maybe they will now say "Walt Disney proudly presents..."! As for a glimpse of the potential future of Disney/Marvel, though not ownd by Disney, here are images of some well known "Disney" characters (and other Fairey Tale characters) done by J.
