I am amazed that Disney bought Marvel comics. I now wonder if it will be a peanut butterand chocolate combination or a tooth paste and orange juice mix. Only time will tell.

I was a bit shocked with the news yesterday, but I'm even more shocked with the stupidity of the portuguese nacional tv news : " Disney bought Marvel for 2 million euros". jeezz.....

What puzzles me about some of those reactions are the comments about Joe Q. "turning Marvel around" and "bringing it back from the grave"...

Well, zombies are hot sellers these days...

Don't know about the future of print publishing, but you'd better believe you'll see some Marvel content on Steve Jobs' new tablet!

I'm not the biggest Disney fan in terms of content, but they know how to make money. If this new exposure/leadership can lead to bigger COMIC BOOK sales I'll be happy.

Wow.

I'm going with the theory of Disney wanting to make Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine and Fantastic Four movies, cartoons and DVDs. Not to mention coloring books, sheets, lunch boxes, video games and action figures.

As far as Disney getting bad press for possibly shutting down the publishing arm of Marvel. None of my younger relatives (by younger I mean between ages 7-13) have any comic books at all. None.

This is not a surprise to me. The top selling comic in the USA sells about 150,000 copies a month. How many people are still buying multiple copies of one issue?

Who's going to complain if Marvel Comics ceases to exist?

I'll sure complain! :) I buy some of the different covers but I don't know if anyone buys multiple copies for reselling or speculator reasons. I don't see that in any of the stores I go to. Comics have a very loyal following consisting of a high-spending demographic. This fan following would be very valuable thing to a company like Disney to leverage. That's why I don't think they are going to end the publishing.

While I think the focus of this deal is primarily about future movie and TV franchises, the publishing will not go away. DC has its precedent with Warners and Disney/Marvel will likely structure a similar model that ties directly into TV animation and merchandising. Publishing will probably be put to a more rigorous standard. Hopefully they will want to use the publishing to make Disney character comics and get all of the titles into more sales venues. And I pray they show vision in making everything all ages across the board to get into more venues.

Mostly I think we will see a change in Marvel's publicity, promotions and advertising - but I'm not sure how.
