I assume the bald guy is Professor X? Is the robot guy Colossus? I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me. White Queen is the only character on that cover I could make a confident guess as to who it is supposed to be based on 40 years or so of the characters' histories.

Vinny, Morrison felt Beast should look like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast because his code name is "Beast".

Talk about not getting it.
Sheesh.

QUOTE:
IIRC, there was an interview where Grant Morrison said that Quitely
doesn't really enjoy drawing superhero comics and that those fans (who
were complaining about his constant lateness) should be grateful to
have an artist like him working in the industry. |

Oh, what a noble sacrifice.

Joe Hollon, that "robot guy" is Magneto disguised as a Chinese mutant named Xorn (I kid you not).
Speaking of Xorneto (that's what some fans on the net call him), was it ever revealed how come Wolverine didn't recognize Xorn's scent as being the same as Magneto's or why no one could tell after seeing parts of his exposed skin that Xorn was not Asian?

The Riot at Xavier cover is also a down shot, but there's no depth perspective, all the characters are 90 degree parallel lines and they're all the same lenght, none of them recede a little in the distance. It's a style. I'm not against it, but I don't find it exiting. And don't get me wrong, I always loved work by guys like Sam Keith and I love what I think are Quitely's influences. I also like work done with alot of parallels and perpendiculars like Charley Harper, or even naive art, but he just doesn't work for me. I have no clue what takes him so long to draw either.
And he drew the Shiar ship interior as some sort of concrete alleyways. I guess it could work and I have no imagination, but still. When Kordey arrived, I thought he looked like a god in comparison even if he was cranking it out.

Straight from the Bible.
Something that is a pet peeve of mine is when an artist will draw a picture of a hero or villain throwing a punch without stepping into it. Look, if you've ever been in a fight you'd know that just swining your arms isn't likely to do much damage. You could always get lucky, but typically you have to move into it with your body. That's one reason I've always loved Sal and John's work.

As Stan said in an interview I saw years ago, in Marvel comics characters don't reach for the phone, they REACH for the phone!Well, once upon a time, anyway.

Something began to creep into the industry a few years back... it was a sense that some of the creators, editors and publishers were embarassed that they were working in comic books, with comic book characters. Suddenly, everyone was making "graphic novels", and looking to realism in what was always an escapist medium. Everything became dark, moody, and grim. I thinkt here is room for all styles, but not all styles fit all titles and characters. Just my opinion.

It seems like everyone is turning every book into "Watchmen
II" painted by Alex Ross.

To give a tiny shred of credit to Morrison, he has said recently that he thinks him doing X-Men was a mistake, and that he didn't enjoy writing it because his style wasn't really suited to it.
A lot of the plotlines were similar to his old Doom Patrol stuff, but the difference was, at that time, Doom Patrol didn't have a huge cache/fan following ala X-Men, so him taking them to crazy places didn't antagonize as many people.

"It seems like everyone is turning every book into "Watchmen

Or "Behind the Green Door" by Rob Liefeld.
