…but from over here you don't seem that far apart.

Over there you must not be paying attention.

Speaking of FUN. I can hardly wait for Citizen Zero.
JB on a creator owned property is going to be a blast.

JB/Erik, have you guys ever collaborated on the same title, at the same time? If not, would you ever consider working together? I know there is history between you guys, but I'm just curious.

A follow up to my earlier comment about SPIDER-WOMAN #10... For those who've read the issue... What did you think?

Actually Namor had a series in the 70s that should be collected in the Essential format and the She-hulk had a series in the 70s early 80s.
******************
Yeah, I knew that. You left out Namor's mini done in the mid-80's, tho.
My point was that neither character had a book out at that time. Which, apparantly, went right over your head.

Don't hold your breath. The "challenge" I set for myself with CITIZEN ZERO is
proving, well, challenging. One of the reasons I have time for so much STAR
TREK, in fact.

SAVAGE DRAGON probably DOES sell better than numerous titles from
Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and IDW- but just to keep things CLEAR - does that
make it an "A-List" book?
JB's runs on SHE-HULK, NAMOR and WCA were his decisions and in NO WAY
did i ever see it as a demotion or career decline for JB. ( actually was excited
that these characters were getting 'special treatment' to be written and
drawn by JOHN BYRNE!!!)
That anyone would suggest otherwise seems antagonistic.
-C!

Brian, to be fair, a character doesn't have to have a title currently in publication to be considered A, B, or C-list. Most base it on publication history. Nova has had three titles published over the span of 35 years as well as starring in NEW WARRIORS and I wouldn't be too off-base to call him a B-list character. Not every, most, or even many characters at either Marvel or DC should be considered A-list simply by length of time from creation to now. Kinda dilutes the term in much the same way as people calling every movie, book, or television show they see as "great", "awesome", and "the best".

Not suggesting they should be. I wasn't saying the character was A- or B-list. I was referring to the actual title(s) in which they appeared. To say that NAMOR was a B-list title is erroneus because prior to JB starting with issue one, it didn't exist. There were no sales to base this decription on. Is Namor a B-list character? Sure. Does that mean a title with him in it is automatically relegated to B-list status right out of the gate? I don't believe that to be the case. For all we know, the first 12 issues of NAMOR may have been within the top 5 in sales for Marvel within that 12 month period.

I think a listing like that has more to do with a perception of the character rather than sales at all, to be quite frank. She-Hulk, one of my favorite characters at Marvel, will probably always be a B-list character simply because of the fact that she is a female version of the Hulk. Ditto a title like WEST COAST AVENGERS because of AVENGERS, or JLA EUROPE because of JLA. It doesn't matter if JB, Stan Lee, John Buscema, or Bendis work on a She-Hulk title, the character herself is B-list. I don't believe a creator, any creator, instantly elevates a character from B to A list. It took a long time and many hands to make the X-Men popular. As John is quick to point out, sales on the title when he was on it weren't as fantastic as many today would assume they were.
In short (too late!), I certainly don't believe a character who was previously perceived to be a B or C-list character can be elevated to A-list in a handful of published books in a solo series. Sales, to me in this discussion, mean next to nothing or else we'd be talking about a ton of A-list characters who received their own books by popular creators during the boom/bust of the 90s.

Most recent sales figure I could find, from a quick online search, for Savage Dragon show it having orders of 6,355 for issue #141. That doesn't include any possible reorders, or sales outside of North America.
Q for Erik L: which "numerous titles from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and IDW" are currently selling lower than 6k? And I'm not trying to be funny or clever or anything here, I'm asking a genuine and serious question, because you continue to throw these observations into the air seemingly without anything to back them up.

Simon, if you want to find sales figures for the top 300 comic books, try this site. They just updated with May's sales which I think is Savage Dragon #148
