When you "swipe" from yourself it's not really swiping. It's just repeating yourself. Swiping by definition must be copying somebody else.

I believe a commonly used phrase for this is "recycling". And in my opinion, recycling is fair game.

Oh, Lordie, let's not start that whole X-MEN/CRISIS nonsense again! George has stated on several occasions that he based his image on a Kirby THOR cover -- based on, not swiped from -- and I have absolutely no reason to doubt him.

As was the case with Larsen recycling a splash from Spider-man (for which he has been criticized above), a fact he mentioned in the letter pages. Many fans got a kick out of that, and wrote in to say so.
