If killing Barry was Marv's idea. This could've been editorial. Given the rampant rebooting and character purging around the time of Crisis, this could've been DC's attempt to bring back a FLASH title without the character who'd been cancelled in the previous one. Wolfman might've just been a hatchet man.

Yes. Marv revealed in the TPB of Crisis that he left a loophole to bring Barry Allen back, which involved Barry's final run through time to save the universe being interrupted and him ending up in the present, having adventures but knowing that eventually he'd be pulled back to the moment of his demise and have to sacrifice himself to save the universe.

That's what Geoff Johns eventually did, even if it didn't result in Barry's permanent return.

JB: How old was Barry when he "died" in CRISIS? For all we know, he
could have been 106.

Now that Wally is a grown man, married with kids -- 106 sounds about right for Barry's current age.

They already sort of did. A while ago they had Bart Allen age 4 years in some kind of time travel mishap. He took over as The Flash for 13 issues, then was killed off. Recently he was brought back to life as a teenager again.
The Flash has not been in steady hands the past few years. Hopefully this Barry Allen revival will put the series back on track.

Which is when the writer walks out. I've done it. After all, there are very few
readers who really blame editorial when things go wrong. If my name is on
the front page a head of everyone else's, I want my story in the book.
