I was about 7 years old when this issue came out.
••
Were you annoyed when your next birthday rolled around and you had to
stop reading comics for a year?

(Haha! Ironically enough, and before I started collecting whole-hog around 1984, my 8th year was probably the one year where my mother bought me the most comics!
...I knew there was something wrong with me!)

About the cover to Avengers #187 -- was listing the levitating characters for the benefit of new readers?

Well I'm usually pretty sarcastic, but this time I was being sincere. Always thought it was an ultra-realistic painted cover (almost a pre-"Marvels" type of deal). Just goes to show I have no artistic eye whatsoever.

Don't feel bad, Albert. I thought exactly the same thing (that this was a super-realistic painted cover) for years until JB cleared that up in a previous thread a while back.

I echo Clint's sentiments with "Fantastic Four" #244 as one of my favorite covers.

I like so many of the ones that have been mentioned; this is probably my favorite of the covers that haven't been mentioned (and may well be my favorite of any Byrne cover):

John:
First, what was the decision in making Puck's custom full length?
Second, re: Avengers 187 cover...LOOK, their hair is hanging down (in regards to your comment in the She-Hulk reading club post)! ;-)

The bare legs didn't work for me.

Its really hard for me to pick one favorite Byrne cover, but if I had to narrow it down, it would either be Uncanny X-Men #136 or 141 or Fantastic Four #247.
