Are you saying that Marvel is wasting its time with the Marvel Adventures line.  That none of these readers will grow up to buy comics. None, Zero, Nada.

Kids are reading comics with Marvel characters.  When they get older, the book stores will have trades of the existing Marvel universe they can try.

I don't understand some of the negative attitude towards the Adventures line.

Chad, you need to stop. The idea of John Byrne and Roger Stern working on a Marvel Adventures Captain America is just too much for me.

The problem, to me, is that the Marvel Adventures line has to exist as a separate, clearly designated, out-of-continuity entity.  I want the "real" comics to be more like the way you describe the Adventures line (I've never read it myself).

I too love the Adventures line. They are perfect for kids, my kids love them, and read them excitedly.

As we all know, comics nowadays must cater to many different groups of readers. Having an accessible line that targets kids, and is in many cases repackaging the original Lee/Kirby/Ditko stories is wonderful.

I just happened to be checking out a preview of the new Moon Knight, and just to illustrate a point about Marvel and comics in general, particularly from a writing standpoint:

Aside from the ridiculous overuse of cursing in comics, as seen here, this fight scene which is NOT being spoiled, has a reviewer pointing out how violent and vicious the fight is. Well, it is vicious, the two are trying to kill one another.

But then, at the moment Bullseye gets the upper hand, with the knife, he decides to...talk about it!!!

Ye gods, man. Either stick with the superhero comic unreality or lose the viscera and cursing trying to make the comic "adult."

I'm reminded of a poster I've seen with a dogsled:  "Lead, follow, or get out of the way."

Working on Star Trek and Angel comics that are only available in the direct market sure seems like "Getting out of the way."  No offense to those that want to read the comics continuing cancelled TV shows, but that's not exactly breaking new ground.  Here's the second highest guy at Marvel saying "Show us what you can do."  What in the world do you have to lose by stepping up and doing it?

Why complain from the sidelines when the coaches, the fans, and the other players are all asking you to come back in the game?

Take the opportunity to lead, and give us John Byrne Superhero comics again.  Please.

I dunno about Marvel Adventures. I liked it better when a kid could
understand it, but occasionally have to look up a word too.

Like JB says a lot "writing in layers" is a lost art.

Also, Marc! I absolutely adore Amazing Spider-Man right now. If the rest of
Marvel's books can eventually catch up and match that quality, I might start
buying more than one (three?) comic a month!

So Jb,
To paraphrase loosely what Bruce said about 4 pages back, what would you
do if Tom Breevort did call you at home to say "can we work this out?"

Is that a call you would take? Likely he can't change the entire Marvel line
100% but if he was willing to give quite a bit of creative control to you on
whatever you chose to work on, would that be at least a conversation you
would listen to?

As a parent of two young regular readers of comic books (Marvel, DC and Indies) there is a lot on that list that my boys are looking forward to reading. At this point the 5 year old prefers being read to as opposed to the 7 yr old who is reading on his own (and reviewing) but he's picking up:

Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Family, Deadpool, Iron Man, Marvel Adventures: Avengers, Mighty Avengers, and Ultimate FF. That's a pretty healthy haul for one company and one week.

And the thing is, with the exception of a few titles they usually read comics based on a cover and flip through. They've picked up stories in the middle of a run (like Secret Invasion) and loved it and had no problem figuring out the story. They like what they like. I think a lot of times we sell our kids or kids in general short on what they can handle/comprehend.

And as far as the Marvel and JB stuff goes. I hope that all of this simply somehow results in JB doing some new work at Marvel in some capacity. I've been a fan for years and he's one of just a handful of creators that I will follow onto books just because of the creator themselves. I've been digging the new work from IDW and enjoying time on the forums and seeing these brilliant commissions but I keep thnking how incredible it would be to see him on some Marvel 'proper' titles again.

The vocab in the MA line would fulfill the expectations listed above.

"The "same line-up", Joe? What should they do, cancel those doddering old-timers like Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four etc in favour of some brand new properties? That makes perfect business sense..."

Nope, not what I suggested.
