Because of the issue caused by profanity.
That made me chuckle.
Glad to be of service. I consider "damn" to be a low-grade curse, one I've seen in books dating back to my childhood; your take on the irony is still appreciated. Miller drops a few bombs of greater magnitude than that, however.
It's not the simple fact of the profanity that provokes my reaction, but what I believe is the crass and manipulative use of it by the publisher.

I wouldn't say the buck stops with Frank Miller...period. Yes, I think that language has no business in a Batman comic...much less in a scene centered around Batgirl. It's wrong and it shouldn't be done. I wouldn't hire Frank to write a Batman story if he told me that's what he was going to write, and I wouldn't accept the story if that's what he turned in.
Which brings us back to DC...good freaking god! What are they thinking printing this? If it's a stunt like some have suggested, it's beneath contempt. If it's simply laziness or bad editing...then it's still beneath contempt. There's no excuse.
DC is as hopless as m*****. It makes me sad to see what these companies are today and compare them to when I started reading comics.

I do wonder about DC's editorial policy and their selection of what to
censor and what to let through to print. "Blacked out" words are elsewhere
in the issue too:

Frank Miller, DC editors and even the separator share some responsibility
in this mess but I think the buck stops with DC editorial.
I didn't see any "mature content" warning or rating on the issue's front
cover. At least newsstands are not the primary sales outlet any more
although I thought I saw this title for sale at Borders bookstore a few years
ago.

Frank Miller wrote it that way - that's where any blame starts and it ends with DC letting it go. Wow. What a pointless waste - The art was dynamic and fun, the text was pure flamboyant flotsam.

Miller has no respect for any DC or Marvel superheroes besides Batman, but even that affection has been pretty twisted over the years. His disdain for Superman and for the readers who continue to support Superman is palpable. He holds a deep resentment toward these characters for maintaining a stranglehold on his chosen medium and he also holds a deep resentment toward the readers who still love these characters and see to it that they make up the vast majority of what's on the stands. As a creator, Miller may not have "lost it," but he should never be allowed to play with anybody else's toys again. DC should have realized after DK2 that Miller hates superheroes and the readers who love them, but DK2 apparently made a truckload of cash, so they continue to seek him out and allow him to do his cynical thing. The disrespect he shows for Superman, Green Lantern and the like is far worse than anything done by JMS, Grant Morrison, or any of the other typical whipping boys.

In contrast to this, two weeks ago the first TPB of "All Star Superman" caught my eye in my local comic shop, and I decided to take a chance and buy it. Wow. OK, it's not the Superman we all know and love*, but if you read it with that fact in mind, it's a hugely gripping piece of work - in my opinion. Don't think there's any bad language in the book, it's just well written and superbly illustrated entertainment. Which, I think, was the purpose behind the All Star line.
*The Superman I know and love was the one JB gave us - and once he'd moved on, the Jurgens/Ordway/Stern issues were also superb reads. How I miss those days!

IMO, (since the day I read DK2),
I believe he is trying so hard to get DC and Marvel
to fire him.
But, instead, like a jilted lover,
they keep throwing him more money,
so he takes it.
It is to laugh.
