I hope you use a high DPI setting when you scan 'em! Wouldn't want any
detail lost.

••

IDW asked for 300dpi, so I'm giving them 400 in the hopes we can avoid the
"cragginess" seen in some of ASSIGNMENT: EARTH.

Wow! That page looks fantastic! Using pencils only on this is a great idea.

Wow.

Now I really want to know who the colourist is. There's a lot of room for a colourist here but at the same time this type of rendering calls for a lot of restraint. I know it can be done. I have seen it done in several European albums.

You need an old school colour artist for something like this.

I am imagining an awful lot of mouths hanging to the floor...
Exactly like mine right now!

John, can, or do you have any input into who the colourist will be?

Not a lot. IDW has a fairly limited stable.

I want really minimal color on this. Were it no so time consuming, I'd be
tempted to try it myself.

This is the most excited I've been about a JB book in some while.  Which is not one of those compliments that are intended to keep the artist up nights!  I'm just overly-jazzed about seeing the pencils as the finished product.  Ink always seems to kill so much of the loose vitality inside JB's penciled images.  This is a Must Buy for me.

Edit to add:  A couple years ago I first saw someone mention on this board the possibility of "shooting from pencil".  Ever since, its been in the back of my mind that a dream project would be seeing JB's take on it.  I'm just glad it found its way into a project he could see himself doing.

A light watercolor look, cool palette, would work over pencils, methinks.

Like when David Lloyd paints, for instance.

JB, do you have any thoughts or concerns about how the black borders relate to the "not quite black" of the pencil art? That's a gorgeous page you posted, but I wonder if the colored version will look washed out as opposed to subtle.

Will, you be involved at all in the coloring part or will it just be a cross your fingers and hope for the best kind of deal?
