Love the look of the pencils posted so far.

I'm really struggling to remember my Angel mythology. Was he still Angelus at this point or a goodie?

Will we be seeing any other known characters from the "Angelverse" ?

Leigh - the gypsy curse was put in effect, so that Angel was Angel and no longer Angelus at least by the Boxer Uprising in China. And unless I'm very mistaken, that'd be before WWI.

He regained his soul in 1898 and the Boxer Rebellion flashback was 1900.

A small downside to my story's time and place is that I am dealing with the "wimpy Angel" who spent most of his time moping around feeling guilty after he got his soul back. Fortunately, the events of the story soon propel him out of this funk, at least temporarily, but I do have to keep reminding myself that this is not the more dynamic Angel of his own series.

Plus, he does get to "play" Angelus for a bit!

I must admit that as much as I liked the character of Angel I found it very hard to like someone that was truly truly evil underneath it all. When he became Angelus again and killed Jenny Carpenter for instance, I lost all and any compassion I had for him even once he was 'good' again.

Still loved his appearances in Buffy and his own show, just didn't like the character so much.

It's not really an accurate picture to say that Angel is "evil underneath". Liam, Angel's original human self, was a wastrel and not much use as a human being, and he died when his body became the host for the demon Darla named Angelus. When his soul was restoried, Angel became effectively a prison for Angelus. The demon was not gone, but he was powerless.

In all fairness, I think that is a bit of  misreading of the character, Leigh. Angel is defined by his human soul (something which vampires as a norm aren't supposed to have in Buffy-lore), Angelus on the other hand is the vampire demon who possessed Angel's body when he was first turned into a vampire (and who gains control when the soul of Angel is for one reason or another not present or in control of Angel's body).  As such, Angelus is not Angel being bad underneath it all, Angelus is a separate enity of sorts, thugh entwined with Angel though the body.

So, in the Buffyverse, vampires are human bodies possessed with demons?  I thought they were just humans devoid of souls...

In the Buffyverse, when you get bitten by a vampire, you die, you soul leaves your body, and a demon enters your empty shell. This demon gains all your memories, and elements of your personality. (In the sequence that introduced Fred to the ANGEL cast, we saw Angel on a parallel world transform fully into the demon that possesses him when he is Angelus.)

It's a substantially different mythology from standard vampire lore -- and decidedly inconsistent!

Does the mini have a Wilfred Owen-ish sub-title?

Here's a bit of news to strike terror into the hearts of millions --- looks like
/ will be "coloring" this series!

Seeing as this is some of your skill at coloring, I think we'll be OK:
