The main issue (IMO) about Jerry Ordway's inking of Byrne's JLA work was Superman, and most specifically Superman's face. The JLA cover I provided is an example. Given that Nelson did the same, I'm wondering if people high up in DC directed this to happen.

This remind me about Jack Kirby's run on Jimmy Olsen, when every face of
Superman and Jimmy Olsen were redrawn at request of the high powers...

From Kirk Dilbeck collection. Sorry if it's old news, but I just found it while
enjoy his CAF site. This is the comment on it:
"This was right after the Avengers took on Nefaria. I asked Mr. Byrne to
recreat Wonderman holding Cap shield. He did a super job!"

I'd love to see that Ant Man reimagined today in character pose...

I think that approach to changing subtle aspects of one's own work is the
same thinking behind having different artists of differing strengths ink
pencils.

••

There is a universe of difference between an artist deciding to try something
different in his own work, and another artist overpowering that work. The
first is about artistic growth. The second is about arrogance. Ordway lost all
credibility in my book when he redrew a CURT SWAN Superman to look like
an Ordway Superman.

Didn't direct it NOT to, more correctly. In the latter instance after assuring
me they would.

JB- Thank you very much for providing first hand info on the subject.

I just hope that you take my public declaration of my likeness with the
final result as an honest exhibition of my personal preferences and not as
an attempt to put salt on the wound, since I didn't know what was behind
of it.

After your comment on overpowering, I can't avoid to think about Sky
Masters, which is one of the more extreme cases that I know of it. In this
case, Jack loved it, and he even asked Dick Ayers to mimic his style, and
he also mimic it in the transtitional strips that he inked himself. From
your comments on other threads, it's obvious that you love the strip.

So, is overpowering wrong for you only in the cases when the penciler
didn't approved it like in your case, or in every case?
