I've never seen those JB/Perez plates before - FASCINATING!
To my eyes that might be the best inking I've ever seen over JB's pencils.

The owner of the Phoenix plate told this about it:
" John originally submitted the pencilled plates to the French publisher for
approval, and then inked bluelines for the published portfolio. Many years
later the pencils were returned to Byrne, which is what this is."

When this first came out I would trace this page over and over so one day I would be JB's next inker. Never happened but I still love this issue.

I love that black & white version, but I have to say I've always liked the
colour on that splash page. Very effective.

I convert the image to CMYK, go the Channels and uncheck the colors and leave the black line. click on the load channels as selection button. Invert Image, and a layer and fill in with black color. Copy, and paste into RGB page. Tinker and fool around with the image until you get what you're looking for.
