I had a day off yesterday, or I certainly would have posted sooner -- sorry.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. The actual, physical passing of his mother is the single greatest loss in a son's life.

When a loved one is in decline for a long period, due to age or specific health problems, it is very frustrating when the end does come. A whole lot of mixed emotions can come with that. Feeling relieved for them and for yourself when it is finaly over, mixed with regret over feeling that relief, while at the same time wishing that it hadn't ended just yet, mixed with self recrimination over not wanting to let go even though it is time to do so.
There really isn't any good way to explain the feelings that you feel in these cases, at least none that I have found in the past few months since my own mother's passing.
The best meager condolences that I an offer is a hartfelt wish that you are able to accept what is and not to let your fond memories be overly dimmed by the unfortunate end.

It comes to us all, but that doesn't make it any easier. Condolences John.
