Very nice! Can't go wrong with a Dr. Doom by Byrne!

Oh, to see JB doing Dr Doom more regularly than these commissions . . .

Great job, JB!

Andrew - I wouldn't mind seeing a Doom mini by JB. He's obviously the kind of villain who is strong enough as a character in and of itself (and sort of likeable) to carry a story on his own. And really, who better than JB to draw and write such a thing.

Geez, your Doom stuff looks very good.  It's as if you're telling a story from the commissions you've done.  Check the previous work out in sequence.

Re: the thread title -

"WHAT?!?  How DARE you draw that overweight, common hoodlum before ME?!?  For so great an error in judgement, Byrne, you lowly pencil-pusher, I shall -- but, no, let none say Doom is not a merciful and forgiving monarch; you may continue to swab ink on paper, or whatever it is you do."

As usual, a fearsome Doom, JB.

This would make a wonderful mini bust statue.

Best comics villains of all time, drawn by the artist who draws him best. Always like those mad, fierce eyes that burn behind the mask when JB draws him.

Jack Kirby invented all sorts of imaginative designs and costumes, but I've always been a little obsessed by that weird stuff in Doom's mouth.

When I was doing my preparations for starting up on FANTASTIC FOUR I did some thinking about Doom's oral grillwork. I briefly considered the idea that his face was not scarred by the accident, but rather translated sideways into a mystical dimension, so anyone looking at it would see literally nothing, except for his eyes, which were protected by goggles. The stuff in the mouth of the mask is there to allow him to breathe and eat.

Obviously, I did not pursue that idea.

I was told by someone that he tried commissioning a portrait and was told
you no longer were doing them.

••

Could have meant a self-portrait, which I have declined as a
commission from the get-go. I mean, what are ALL these single figure
pieces, if not "portraits"?

*****

John, i was planig to finish my portrait serie, by adding number 3 and 4 (final), nuber four being Sue, but Jim told me that you weren't interested anymore.
I'm glad that it seems possible now.

This is what I was referring to earlier in the thread
