What I particularly liked about Paul Smith's take on Wolverine was the body
language ... look at that third panel on the first of these pages. Just superb.

Cheers

The unmasked man in this sequence strikes me as rather Byrnesque
---
He reminds me of the guy in 2112 who gets sucked dry by Sathanas for not
pledging his loyalty.

Amen.  And this was actually a close fight that I wasn't assured Wolverine would win.  Today's Wolverine would break the Silver Samurai's sword between his butt cheeks and wear his head like a hat by the third panel.

Yeah, apparently she's supposed to be a terrible bass player.

Paul Smith's background in animation really shows in his work. You
never have to wonder what's going on in any sequence he's drawn. And
his body language is fantastic.

I also liked the fact that he always the details of Byrne's Wolverine
costume right.

Yeah, that Wolverine vs Silver Samurai is an excellent sequence.
Smith has some experience with animation art? I didn't know that.

Samurai comes off as a glitzy putz in that battle.
He never stood a chance.

I remember reading something about Smitty coming from animation when
he first started with the X-Men...

(Could be wrong, of course. Being crazy means my memories can't be
trusted...)

Paul Smith worked for Ralph Bakshi before moving on to comics. I know for sure that he worked on the animated Lord of the Rings movie, but I think he also worked on one or two other Bakshi movies.

I looked up LotR (1978) on IMDb.com and found a Paul Smith but it's apparently not the same one. (Not saying Smitty didn't work on the movie, though).

Anyway, back to the thread, here's an interesting gimmick: a cover that is a panel--
