QUOTE:
Just ask JB, why was Frank Lauro banned?
••
Same reason anybody gets banned -- cumulative effect.

|

What happened between his attendance at the funeral and his banning that pushed his total over the top? The thing that stunned people was how the banning occurred immediately after the funeral.

Frank printed out 30 (?) pages of condolences from board members to Gregg's family. Then he went to Chicago to present this packet to Gregg's parents on behalf of the members of the JBF.

And as soon as he got back he did something that was "the last straw", as I recall. The funeral was completely uninvolved and unrelated.

And thus He becomes the Anti-Byrne, immortalized for His One Good
Deed, while all the months of sniping, contrariness and
confrontationalism are conveniently forgotten.
Well, I was, in fact, not happy when I read about his little funereal
adventure. Someone who had copped the attitude he did on this Forum
had no business "representing" the Forum in any form. However, the
morning I hit the "last straw" it was four or five threads before I got to
the one about the funeral.
None of this matters, tho. The truth is not a valued commodity on the
internet. Continue with you storytelling. Life is, after all, just a big comic
book, and your job is to keep those subplots bubbling and broiling.

…the cover features the silhouette of a pointy-eared figure…
••
Sorry I missed this.
The figure on the cover was, indeed, the Shaper of Worlds. Howard and I
were planning that story as a scaled down version of our contemplated-
and-discarded "fix". Then we decided to scale it down even more, and make
the villain Mysterio, who was already known for pulling the kinds of stunt
the story needed.

How "noble" of you.
Not playing this game. Feel free to dig up various threads in the Star Trek, TV, and Movies sections if you want examples.

Game? You made the statement. Back it up. Don't give me this crap.

And that's precisely the reason why Bad Byrne stories exist. It isn't because you're unfairly persecuted, it isn't because quotes are taken out of context. It's just because you are, quite simply, an asshole. Anyone reading the board for just a couple of weeks can see that.
Really, just take the advice given to you a few pages ago. Just shut the message board down. It's not doing you or your career any favors.

Yet you take that very quote out of context.

Trevor: "Your comments will spread all over the internet and through
comic stores, and will definitely hurt your chances of success."
****
If this is true, here's what I don't understand about this kind of thinking:
does the comicbook buying public really want writers and artists to glad
hand and blow sunshine up the ass of their readers in interviews and
public forums like this one?
JB has some controversial opinions on subjects. Whether I agree or
disagree, I respect and appreciate his candor. I initially participated to
get insight into JB's work, but threads on controversial subjects come up
and he doesn't shy from expressing his opinions in a way you don't often
see. It makes this forum damn good reading. People are so used to
messages controlled by publicists that they think JB has to act like Santa
Claus. Isn't it more compelling to read actual opinions instead of a press
kit?
I see one constant in forum members, comic book bloggers, comic-
reading friends, and the chatty people in Los Angeles comic shops -- a
piercing honesty. About comics... and about every other damn thing. I
don't see JB's candor as any different than other members here throwing
shit about years old grudges. This thread alone shows we have forum
members who expect JB to show some Miss Manners politeness they
themselves don’t exhibit.
Professional wrestling literally writes scripts for their wrestlers to create
false controversy. Here we have actual controversy and it seems to me
some of you are bitching that you want JB to smile and throw candy when
he disagrees with someone?

Mike --
Why can't you accept the fact that this is John's "house" on the Internet,
and we're fortunate to visit? Is it too much for John to ask that we keep
our feet off the furniture and not to puke on the rug? Is that such a hard
concept to understand?
Personally, I find it refreshing in this politically correct age that John has
the guts to be so outspoken and forthright. Yeah, he can be blunt and
acerbic, but you can tell he writes straight from the gut and calls things
as he sees them.
And, you know, I don't always agree with him. But this would be a pretty
dull place if I did.

While I understand what you're saying, I'm not sure I agree with you, Tim. From what I saw since this thread started, it got heated at times, and there were a lot of differing viewpoints being tossed around, but it had remained civil for the most part until someone decided that someone else wasn't grieving for a personal loss the correct way. Suddenly the whole thing went to crap. In a situation like that, I don't think the expectation on anyone's part is "Miss Manners politeness," just basic human decency.

Like not using your own mother's death that very day to make a point about
a story in a comicbook?
That really doesn't bother you in the least?
