But those are whole sentences....

••

In fact, they are not. Try again.

How many times have you insulted Roy Thomas and Bob Layton?

••

None?

In all fairness to Mr. Layton, it is not unreasonable to suggest that your comments from The Comics Journal were rather insulting. It was your professional opinion, of course, and should be respected, but many might take those comments as an insult.

If someone expressing a negative opinion of someone else's work is to be
deemed "insulting", it would seem I have been insulted thousands upon
thousands of times without even realizing it!

I doubt you would realize it if people were insulting you, JB. You seem especially good at not dwelling on criticism and not carrying it around with you. Other pros would be doing themselves a favor to follow your lead in that regard.

Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhh! This was such a great thread than Halecki had to derail it with his story true or not it did not belong here. Can you all please get back to discussing the real topic here? Save the whole "Byrne the Terrorist" stories for another website.

I am going to try to save it here but I fear it is already too late.

I loved Spider-Man married. I started reading right after he did get hitched when I was 12. When I turned 28 and was getting married myself I found greater enjoyment out of the wedding issue. So the marriage was not a problem for me. I do not like the way it ended.

Did anyone read Erik Larsen's article on the topic over at the CBR page? He had some good ideas how to resolve a lot of this mess without creating a new unresolved storyline.

I once found myself confronted by an internet poster (as always from the
safe anonymity of an fake screen name) listing all the good Byrne
stories, and telling me, in so many words, that they don't
count.

Down the street a bit, we have Rich Johnston cheerfully printing lies and
innuendo, and proudly titling his muckraking with a double-meaning that
declares his intent.

In the face of the likes of this, I prithee, what could I do that you would
deem not self-destructive?

As much as I like interacting with you, shutting down the message board would be a step in the right direction.  Not the website, and definitely not the commission gallery, but the message board section.  They aren't doing you anything but harm (you've seen your WikiQuote page, right?).  Maybe go blog and allow reader comments.

I dunno.  You are the guy with the public face.  I'm just a guy on the internet.  But that's what I think.

Heh.... I stopped reading Spider-Man regularly before they revealed who the Hobgoblin was, let alone before the marriage.

**************

Did JB insult Bob Layton or did he just critique his work?

One thing I came away from college with was that criticism was of a non-personal nature.
I can still remember the class and how I felt.  It was a finals project in my photography class.  I had waited until the last minute to get it done.  Then I presented my photos to the class.
They weren't terrible, but I couldn't explain to the class how they all tied together.  A fellow student took over and showed how they all tied together.  My teacher then used this as an exercise in showing the class how my photos weren't bad, but my presentation was.  I didn't have a theme.  I failed.  He told me to go out and do better next time.  I was still a nice person.  Nothing personal.  We still like you. However I had failed this assignment.
Lesson learned.  Thanks Mr. Wells.

??? And that would be different. . . how?

One thing the message board, or any other "printed" for offers.
Somebody comes screaming that "Byrne said 345!!!" and I can direct them
to the thread or post in which I actually said "12345". Or maybe even
"34567".

As someone once said, "The truth is out there." Snag is, you need people
who are actually interested in finding it.

Ok IN CONTEXT:

1-Aric, a board member, and frequent, tho pesky commissioner, asks you about a supposed difference in your signiture style, you reply "Look at some other comissions, Anal-Boy."

2-A former member explains to you the reason he doesn't see "Supes" as disrespectful to Superman (a FICTIONAL character), your reply: "it's ok to call him "Supes", if I can call you "FUCK-FACE!"

3- A former member tells you he's looking forwartd to reading Lost Girls and you reply to him "Then you are a complete asshole!"

There now.....Those are specific instances.....AND complete sentences.

All classy responses to folks who consider themselves your fans. The ones who buy your books.

And that's not even getting into the fact that you ban a member in good standing, who always seemed to support you, for attending the funeral of a member as a gesture of goodwill, and then sweeping it under the carpet.
