What was your reason for having the tickles last as long as nine or ten
months after the Shaper explained everything? Why not just make a clean
break immediately?

••

I didn't say the "tickles" lasted nine or ten months.

In any case, we were running two monthlies, so it would probably have been
closer to five.

One wonders what the reaction to the "Shaper" story would have been, had it been implemented, as opposed to the (huge) reaction to the Mephisto story that has now been published.

If the Shaper grants wishes, essentially, then it works because Peter's wish, in OMD, is for Aunt May to survive.  You wouldn't need the suicide angle.

Peter isn't "wishing" for anything in the Shaper story. That's not really how
the Shaper works. And, importantly, when he comes close to doing so, it's
very much a be careful what you wish for scenario.

Anyway, as I said, the reader would be left not knowing if Peter jumped
or fell. The fact that it might -- might -- have been an attempted
suicide was not important to the outcome.

Just read that ASM # 546 has sold out and is going into a second printing. So, despite the controversy, it looks like this "Brand New Day" thing has convinced people to pick up the book. At least for now.

Understood (except for how the Shaper works).  Just thinking in terms of what if your scenario was adapted to OMD.

Despite or because of?

Despite or because of?

---

Given the nature of event comics, it's probably both.

++++++++

That's the big question.

Considering that some of the people who complained about ASM # 545 probably bought more than one copy, well...

Also consider it was a topic on Howard Stern's show and there was a paragraph or two in the Post.  Lots of free press there.

In the days of direct sales, comics are being printed to the amount that are pre-ordered. Aren't ALL comics "sold out"?

Good point.  I wonder what the print run was.

I'd expect it was rather high, given that it was teased as Spider-Man's new
status quo, as well as having a new writer/artist team.
