<<<Add up all the times a passage of time has been mentioned in th
Spider-Man books. You get him being 24 at most.>>>

Within the last year or two, it was stated in a published story that Peter was
bitten by the radioactive spider 15 years ago. That would make him 30 now.

For what it's worth, Quesada did say in a recent interview that they only revealed his identity because they had planned to undo it as part of Mephisto storyline.

I tend to agree with you on that matter.

Are you really unwilling to consider that your memories from your childhood
might not be indicitive of what is appealing to kids of today, 30 or however
many years it is, later?

••

When the number one complaint I used to hear from real kids at cons was
"Superman is too old"?

Anthing Quesada says in interviews is always dubious. He has waffled on several things over the years. So much so, in fact, that I am surprized the man isn't a politician.

I have only been reading a book here and there for the passed few months, but didn't they kind of deal with the secret identity thing by putting it half back in the bag a month or two ago?

SPOILERS (maybee)

They had a bunch of people in Stark Spider suits make an appearance in public saying that Peter was one of SEVERAL people that would occasionally wear the suit that gave them Spider-Man powers, and that he turned in his gear to the rest of the Spider-Men and left the program, putting doubt in the publis eye if he really was the "real" Spider-Man.

And George Lucas had STAR WARS all worked out from the beginning.

Really? SO did Mehisto mind wipe everyone ont he planet that might have seen Peter's face? That means that a large percentage of the Marvel Universe has been touched by the DEVIL? AND... is that even possible? Can Mephisto do that kind of thing to innocents without there consent? OR does he have to creeate an ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE(one might call it a HELL dimension) in order to achieve the intended result? Does that now mean that the MU, as it is being published now, is Hell? Just wondering.

...he wasn't sure if the reboot/deal with the devil also was the solution to the identity reveal. He said he just wasn't sure--also thought hat there was a possibilty that the identtu reveal thing was explained away witht he usage of ---wait for it---wait for it--CLONES?

Can anyone fill in the details.

It was clear in the story that the identity reveal was done away with.  MJ said something along the lines that she wanted to Peter to have the chance at happiness and that happiness wasn't possible if everyone knew Spider-Man's identity. Mephisto agreed that it would be taken care of.

This discussion of McFarlane reminds me of something that perhaps illustrates one of the reasons why Peter shouldn't be married: issue 299 when Venom terrorizes Mary Jane.  Whatever either of them might say about it, it doesn't make Peter look very responsible to be married and remain Spider-Man also.

As for McFarlane's art, I find it endearing or at least bearable in the first half of his run; there see,ed to be some untapped potential there.  In the second half, it starts to go south fairly quickly.

It has been for several years now.

To seriously answer your question, though, Quesada and his editors believe that "magic" can undo anything, and requires no real explanation.

"Mephisto agreed that it would be taken care of"

Ah, that Mephisto.  Always the benevolent one.
