Well, I certainly hope you're all wrong in your guesses that that's what the "Spiderman Returns" sign means! Altho, it would be all too typical of the attitudes at ^^***** in the past few years -- decades even. I could not in a million years imagine Stan pitching a new direction for a book by saying "We know it's been sucky, but it's gonna get better!" He was the master of "If you've liked it up till now, you're gonna LOVE what's coming!"I knew ^^***** had slipped a cog when a disparaging remark was directed toward CHAPTER ONE in the Bullpen Page. Basically "Now that atrocity is finished, come see the real Spider-Man!" It felt very much like another nail in the coffin of the real Marvel.

I'm sure that's because Stan was trying to sell as many comics to as many people as possible. Today it seems like a lot of people in the industry are more concerned with their credibility with the niche audience they're targeting. They're all about "keeping it real".

What's been happening at M****l lately is the saddest excuse for "keeping
it real" i've seen in a long while.
There's been quite the deserved backlash to this OMD storyline but i'm
sure that's viewed as a success because it has created buzz for the Spider-
Man books. *sigh*

Can anyone explain to me how Joe Quesada became EiC?
It strikes me as odd that that should be an aspiration of his (I'm guessing he didn't get into the field to be an editor) and even odder that he was deemed qualified for the position.

This controversy was discussed by Howard and Robin today, with Howard basically stating that wiping away 20 years of continuity was bulls**t. So while the conclusion was decidedly anti-Marvel, the very fact that it was discussed in a forum with 8 million listeners can't be a bad thing for the book's numbers.

I would say that most of their books feel like clones, following a 'how to plot' manual that was popular in the nineties...

That may be true of the main iconic titles like FF, AVENGERS, X-MEN, etc., but it's certainly not true of titles like IRON FIST, MS. MARVEL, INCREDIBLE HULK, GHOST RIDER among others. Like I said, a generalization that fails when one looks past the big titles.
