I'm curious to know what's in it for Mephisto (the interview doesn't mention him, btw).  I guess that will be revealed later on.

Seems like this kinda shits on Mephisto. You can't make a deal with him and come out ahead. So if the story goes to its logical end Mephisto wrecks havoc while making things worse than before. If not it takes his thunder.

"The way they got there was incredibly stupid, but I do look forward to seeing what happens now that the reset has happened. I don't think it can get any worse than it was."

I hope you're right, Aaron ... but my experience is that the universe listens to us when we utter those words and takes it as a challenge to prove us wrong.

I think this is a turn in the right direction.  Now Spidey can get married again, turn into an alcoholic and start beating his wife.

I paged through it on Friday -- looks almost exactly like the storyline I
posted here a couple years ago, only I used Dr. Strange as my deus ex
machina and Mary Jane was the one whose life was in danger. Not that I
really think someone cribbed my story, but it makes you wonder...

I am fine with the reboot as long as it sticks. But wouldn't it have made a lot
more sense to do this in 2002 before the first movie came out?

To me it sounds like the best thing to possibly happen executed in the worst way possible. Haven't read the story so can't comment on it quality-wise, but not having a married or divorced Spider-Man is a good thing, not having everyone know Spider-Man's identity is a good thing, Aunt May not knowing Spider-Man's identity is a good thing, no organic webshooters is a good thing. J. Michael Straczynski off the book is a Great thing.

Tho Spider-Man making a deal with Mephisto is beyond stupid.

A deal with the devil, huh?  Peter should find Johnny Blaze's phone # and give him a call; 'cuz you know, deals with the devil always work out so well...NOT!

I just stepped back into the Alvaro Spider-Man Board moderator position again after a nearly 10 year absence. With the current upheaval of the marriage driving many youngsters nuts, someone just created a banner that I thought I'd share with ya:

I read this issue yesterday and I have to agree with the criticism I've heard. I hate the idea of a "cosmic reset" -- why invalidate 20+ years worth of stories? However, things have a way of going full circle. I suspect in a few years, Peter and Mary Jane will end up back together. I don't see that it's a big deal either way, although I'm tired of these constant shake-ups.

I like the idea of Peter being single, having a secret identity, having Harry back, etc. But if anyone thinks this solves the problems with Spider-Man, that's just wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

The problem with Amazing Spider-Man has been the increasingly dark, depressing tone of the book. This goes back to the 1990s, even before the JMS run. Things like the loss of Peter's secret identity are just a by-product of this darker tone. If that doesn't change, this reset won't matter a bit. The question is, "What kinds of Spider-Man stories with Marvel choose to tell going forward?"

I can see why Straczynski was pissed; all of the changes during his run that Joe Q raved about have been completely undone <g>.

His marriage lasted 20 years -- much longer than most.

Does he get Gwen Stacy back, too?

Can Spidey start dating the Black Cat again?

The only thing I don't like about the story was that it felt, too pre-planned -- what I mean is -- it felt like JMS knew this was the plan for the past several years and just wrote all the bull-shit stories he could to screw with the character...knowing he would be retconning everything in the end.   Basically, we should all get our money back for the books we bought under the belief they were "continuity" stories and not just "what-if" stories --- I feel like Marvel pulled a big fraud on me.

As Kathy Bates said in Misery --- "he didn't get out of the cockadoody car!"

i can't wait till M****l starts treating their characters history with a little more
respect. Quesada & co. thought they could take Spider-Man in a new,
exciting direction and failed miserably. As a fan i no longer have any faith
in the current regime at M****l so i'll probably stick with my back issues
of Amazing Spider-Man idf i need a fix of good Spidey stories.
