Personally, as I read all this, it seems that Erik doesn't want an apology NOW,
he wants proof that Byrne is a hypocrite in the past.
This is my two cents, but this doesn't sit well.
Without an available quote of the original apology as proof, this is all moot.
As a fellow JBF member, I would like to communicate to Erik Larsen,
-Accept the current apology and move on. Erik, I'm certain that you have more important things on your plate.(I wish you every success as publisher) but I hope that you can be a gentleman in this and accept and drop it.
(None of my business- just sayin')
Malachy, same message. (Not really your business either.-just sayin'.)

To be fair, could be he just wanted to read the apology, to see what it said. After all, there's a world of difference between (to take two hypothetical examples) "I'm sorry I screwed up" and "I'm sorry you're such a dumb@$$". Being interested in seeing an apology never previously seen seems not unreasonable, to me.
Also note that wondering if the apology exists (present tense) is not calling JB a liar. It's entirely possible (and at this point, fairly likely) that the original apology no longer exists anywhere accessible on the internet. That's not calling JB a liar - that's just saying the details seem to have been lost to us, here and now. So the repeat on page 48 of this thread (requoted since) is the next best thing. OK, so be it.

Then why ask if it exists, then say I am being given the "benefit of the
doubt"? Those are mutually exclusive concepts.

They are different concepts; I don't see them as necessarily exclusive. To call someone a liar is to assert with a degree of configdence (and ideally, proof or at least evidence) that they are lying. To give someone the benefit of doubt, that's more open-ended. It could be anything from "I think you're probably telling the truth, but can't be sure" to "I think you're probably lying, but can't prove it". I'm in no position to say with any confidence what's in Mr. Larsen's mind; that's a question for him. I'm just saying it's quite possible for someone to be genuinely uncertain about what transpired, and ask questions about it, without calling the other person a liar.

Now that we're two issues into Marc & Sal's first arc, what do you
guys think of those? I'm totally biased-- I'm digging 'em! |

They're still not enough to get me to drop nine bucks a month on the book.
To be blunt, whereas the first issues under BND didn't seem like anything that actually REQUIRED that pesky ol' deal with the devil, now it feels almost like Marc is going out if his way to hit some of the "talking points" of the status quo changes, and it's coming across as forced. (Example: The "talking point" of going back to mechanical web-shooters being "Hey, he can run out of web fluid during a fight." Now, we're being hit over the head with the beat of, "I'm outta web fluid and can't afford to make more.")
Sorry...this just isn't doin' it for me. I'm semi-curious...enough that, if a co-worker brings in his copy, I'll read it, but I'm not going out of my way to read it, and it certainly isn't worth the monthly expense to me.

So, you really weren't aware of this thread before now, "Stanley"? ... I mean, Ray? Why you wouldn't lie about such a thing, would you? You're a man of ethics. Why, just ask our pal Dave, AKA Fievel. I seem to recall you, um, "borrowed" some books while you stayed at his house and sold them off without mentioning that they didn't belong to you.
Yeah, I trust your word.

Oh! Let me!!
Ray is a liar! He sure lied to me when he sold me some comics in the past.
Ask him about "his" "Daredevil Comics" #2, or the other comics he took and sold off claiming they were his. Ray is just lucky that the friend he stole from was not the kind to press charges.

"Stanley," I am flat-out calling you a liar. Did you not sell Dave's books claiming they were your own? Answer.
Edit: Should I also get Chuck and Jim to confirm this? I recall you went to all three of our shops with Dave's comics.

Right at this moment, while you're high on the rush of righteous indignation, take some time to reflect on your own life, and the impact that your online statements may have on your livelihood.

Ray, "Stanley," whatever... In the event that this is a veiled threat of some sort, I am more than willing to go to court to prove anything I stated about you here. YOU know I can prove what I stated that in more ways than one. That is a fact.
If you are making a threat of another sort, it is YOU that better tread carefully.
