It could be Dave.  I remember reading it, maybe in one of the threads were we were discussing either Erik's criticism of George Perez, or his Defenders title that was on sale at the time.  They may even be the same thread, or another completely different one.  It wasn't important enough to me personally to store all of the details in my aging memory.  Both are so long ago that I doubt the JBF would have stored them..

I think I remember reading something where JB said he would be happy to apologize as soon as Larsen apologized for all the things he'd said about him.

Here is the text of a (now deleted) post JB made to the Net54 board. The post was called "A Public Apology to Erik Larsen (you can still dig up a link with the title in the URL, though the text is gone), and yes, this is the actual text of the apology:

That's right! There seems to be a growing sentiment here and abroad that I was, perhaps, misled by the individual I met at AggieCon, lo these many years ago. Apparently this individual may have been engaged in a massive and complex hoax foisted upon myself, the people who ran the Con and everyone who attended.

If this is indeed the case, I am perfectly prepared and willing to offer a full and formal public apology to Erik Larsen. Right here! On this board!

And I will do so the moment Larsen recants, retracts, and apologizes for all the deliberate misstatements he has made about myself and my work in the last decade or so. All the preposterous lies about what and how I draw. All the impossible mindreading. Should be a couple hundred comments by now. I will need them itemized, of course.
Seems fair, right?

Now be a dear and find the post AFTER that one, Greg. You know, since you
seem to have everything I have ever written right at your fingertips.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Really? Reconcile that with "I'm just curious to know if such an apology
exists."

If you think about it, Larsen is easy enough to understand. He is at best a third rate artist who built much of his "reputation" riding the coat tails of others. He made such a shameless attempt to imitate the more successful Todd McFarlane, during his tenure with Spider-Man, that the Toddler himself even commented on it, in his Bullpen Bulletins profile, saying his "hobbies" included "learning to draw like Erik Larsen".

Larsen then became one of the founding fathers of Image, and began at that point what appears to be a concentrated and conscious effort to convince the world (and himself?) that he was worth the millions of dollars he was making. This is part of why he has played himself as a kind of "Working Class Hero", referencing as often as possible how he kept Savage Dragon going even after it became unprofitable to do so, and even suggesting that I "abandoned" Next Men at a time when my book was selling better than his!

The Image bubble has burst, taking much of the industry with it, but Larsen continues to operate as if no one has yet noticed the Emperor has no clothes. That is the only possible way to explain something as grotesque as his not only speaking ill of the work of George Perez -- and artist who, at his worst is a thousand times better than Larsen at his best -- but having the audacity to provide point by point criticism of the work, as if he, Larsen, has anything even remotely of value to offer in a discussion of the merits of the work of an artist.

Please note I most pointedly and deliberately do not say another artist.

I don't know what Larsen's case is. I don't really have a dog in this fight. I just dipped into this thread to see why it was 65 pages long.

I have been enjoying the new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN issues.

That's an awesome graphic. :)

I like SAVAGE DRAGON okay. I have the first trade. But I don't know what's gone on between you two personally. If you put quotes around the phrase "A Public Apology to Erik Larsen" and stick it into Google you end up with two links recent COMICON.com threads and the one I pasted in above. The old Net54 thread where it originated seems to be gone.

Obviously I haven't posted on here a lot but I've been reading for years. I've been reading your comics since I was in kindergarten.

I'll probably just direct my nose out of this thread now.
