Dan,

Excellent job on the first arc. It's good to have a fun Spider-Man back. I've read the first issue of Marc's arc and its going well so far. I'll be checking out the second part later today.

Really--I don't care who answers the question. I'm just curious to know if
such an apology exists. If another Byrne board member can provide a link to
where Byrne apologized for accusing me of having a background guy and
admitting he confused me with Valentino-- I'm fine with that.

John can sit this one out. Surely one of his faithful followers saw this apology
and can provide a link. How about it?

I like this idea.

As for a divorce, I'd have nothing against it but I can see why other people would.  Still, I think it beats the chosen alternative.

We're all working really hard on this thing.

Congratulations on your work, Mr Slott, I read the first issue of BND and found it well crafted. I haven't bought a Spidey book since the MacFarlane days, but decided to check out what all the fuss was about.

Unfortunately, the weekly schedule and the rotating creative teams concept is not my cup of tea.

I wish you continued success!

Honestly, I'm too lazy to go back and look, and I don't know if he did or didn't, but does it matter? He did just apologize to you in this very thread. In all caps, even.

Not trying to start anything.

All it would take is a big news story about the reveal having had been a
hoax (as they did 30 some odd years earlier with Captain America). This
could have been similarly put to rest. Spider-Man could be seen publicly
saving Peter Parker -- maybe somebody pretends to be Spider-Man for a
time and that confuses the matter -- maybe he gets Daredevil to play the
role, but the Genie can certainly be put back in the bottle. And any time it
was brought up all it would take is for some character to say, "Yeah, I'll
bet you still believe Milli-Vanilli sang their own music and Iraq was
responsible for the attack on 9-11, too." and that would make it clear
that everybody thought it was a hoax.

---

Milli Vanilli didn't sing their own music?!?

The approach above was just used in Daredevil, with Iron Fist
masquerading as Daredevil while Matt Murdock was in prison. It still
leaves Peter and MJ vulnerable, as people can still suspect Peter of Spider-
Man anyway (which happens in Daredevil with Matt and his secret
identity). If there were a strong editorial fiat that said, "We'll undo the
unmasking then never bring it up again," I could see this approach
working, but the same would be true of the approach used in BND.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I certainly have not been
to every board on the web and read everything you've had to say. I
haven't even visited this site on a regular basis until recently.

So said that you apologized "years ago." I hadn't seen it. I was curious to
read what you had to say when this was put to rest all those years ago.
So--how about it?

I remember reading JB's clarification of the whole "background man" thing many moons ago on the JBF, but I wouldn't begin to remember which thread it was in with all of the posting that gets done around here.  I have too much on my plate to go hunting for it, but it did happen.

Good to see Dan Slott posting here. I have to say that I loved his first story arc in "Brand New Day" -- it really felt like the real Spider-Man was back for the first time in I don't know when.

Keep up the good work and I'll keep buying 'em!

JB doesn't post anywhere else on the web, at least since May 2003. So it must have been here, or at the JBF archives. Although, posts here seem to go away after a couple years. Everything posted by JB at the archives is still there. Was this apology posted there, I wonder?
