They tell a continuous narrative. The first 12 issues are all three-parters, then after that we'll get some one-parters, two-parters, six-parters etc.

The Surfer never made the dirty deals with Mephisto. Tho - he's now dead isn't he, from rust or tarnish or cancer or something? I seriously can't make sense of the supposed continuity from the House of Ideas these days, sorry.

••

Y'know, when we have to pause to try to remember whether a character is "dead" or not, it tells us an awful lot about what's gone wrong with superhero comics in the past 20 years or so.

I think Surfer is a Herald of Galactus again.

I can't really follow it anymore but DC is worse I think. They're apparently in the process of "fixing" the DC Universe. The cure seems worse than the disease.

Surfer became a herald of Galactus again, popped up in Fantastic Four, about a year ago, and nobody's been doing anything with him since. JMS' mini-series is out of continuity as is, I believe, the mini-series being published, now.

And as much as I liked McDuffie's run on the Fantastic Four, that Silver Surfer appearance had Black Panther beat him, by putting him in a headlock.

That annoyed me too. Overall, McDuffie's run was pretty good, but a few things bugged me, including his Johnny Storm dialogue.

I don't remember Johnny Storm's dialogue, Aaron, but, other than that head-scratching scene between Panther and Surfer, I, too, thought McDuffie had an excellent run. I particularly liked the recent Dr. Doom story. Fun stuff.

In a few instances Johnny's dialogue came across as too immature. I realize that Johnny is young, but it seemed as if we, the readers, were being hit over the head with his immaturity with some of the remarks he made (I don't recall the specific things he said, I just remember cringing a little). But that's a small complaint in the grand scheme of it being a good, fun run.

The Doom story was good.

Seriously?! That almost makes Jigsaw breaking Spider-Man's arm comparatively plausible!

I'm not captain stat-card, but sometimes it's like, "yeah, absolutely no way".

I didn't get what the furor about Jigsaw breaking Spider-Man's arm was. He's had the hell beaten out of him by "normal" criminals countless times before. But, yeah, the choice to have Black Panther headlock Silver Surfer into submission stretched credulity a little more than the average issue of the FF.

IIRC, didn't the Panther use a version of Dr. Doom's technology to strip the Surfer of the Power Cosmic first?

JB said (a LONG time ago...)

"One of the more profound impacts of the Direct Sales Market that I have
noticed is that many people no longer pick up their comics every week.
They have "pull-lists" and will let a stack of books accumulate for weeks
or even months. Then, when they finally get around to reading them,
they are doing so not at all in the manner intended, and thus do not get
the "experience" intended."

------------

What I do I do out of neccessity...I have four kids, all 5 or younger, my wife stays home for the most part and I work 10 hours a day.  Believe you me, it would be almost impossible to carve time each week to head down to my local comic shop to pick up my books.

Every once in a while I'll bring my older kids down to peek around and pick up a few things for them, as it gives my wife a break and puts a couple o'bucks in the shop-owner's pocket, but I get my books shipped once a month from an online store.

Cost is also a factor as my local shop can't offer the same discount as the online store, and I need the bigger discount to be able to afford what I'd like to get.

My habit has always been to more or less read my books alphabetically by title, unless there's something that really grabs my attention.  If I'm reading "out of sequence" with the normal weekly schedule, I'm fine with it.

For cost and convenience, it's online shopping for moi!
