Tim...
Gregg's family appreciated the gesture, even going so far as to post their thanks here on this board. Seems to me that qualifies as a good thing. It was fairly common knowlege that the gesture was going to be made, and no objections were noted. Frank's supposed board indescretions aside, how is doing something to make the family of a friend feel a bit better during such a horrible time a bad thing?
sorry about continuing the thread drift, folks, but......

Paul Greer: "'Nicky", I could give two shits what you think. Mr. "I hate this place
so much I'll join ten months after my bestest buddy was banned". You're
a phoney."
I think the word you're looking for is "poser". Nicky is not being "phony", he's being real, and that's the pathetic part.

Reasons have already been given. Asked and answered, as they say in
court.
Once again, tho, despite the best efforts of some here to make it
otherwise, this was not why this particular poster was banned.
(Common knowledge? Not to me.)

Brian - I didn't say it was a horrible and bad thing - I said I have no doubt that he was appropriate and respectful and he did a good thing with wonderful, meaningful intentions. That's far from saying "horrible and bad". But when you say "fairly common knowledge" about the situation, it points ot my problem with someone representing the forum in any way. Everyone reads the forum differently. I skipped people I didn't find interesing back then and missed this. I was away at the time with a terirble situation of my own, and I got back to hear my words were presented in a way I didn't sign off on. So I'm a prime example of not everyone being on the same page. And since I had met Gregg A, I was bothered.
Since it bothered me, I checked with about five forum members I know personally and while some didn't agree with him on other points, they said he handled it really well. That's why I said above I have "no doubt" about his intentions.
But I still feel strongly about it because I knew about the details after the fact and my words were in there being handled by someone I don't know. And I think there are other people out there who care about the forum as much as I do, but don't read every post. I certainly didn't read everything back then, but it didn't mean I didn't care about the forum or its members. Do yous ee where I'm coming form with this?

So I'm just seeing JB's post above, which I didn't see while I was clacking away at the above, and I didn't realize until now that JB didn't know either. That's a problem. It underscores my point about forum members not knowing how something that important is going to go down. Since it's JB's forum, it doesn't just underscore my point, it also highlights, bolds, and italicizes what I'm trying to relate.

Luckily, the memorial thread for Gregg is still here, so we can see that Frank posted his offer to attend the service on page 2, Gregg's brother responded on page 3, JB posted on page 4, Frank posted some more later about his plans to attend, and Tim posted on page 1, and again on page 6, so unless JB and Tim had Frank on ignore, some pertinent postings were missed by accident. No one objected.

BTW, I didn't quit as a moderator simply because of this banning. It was a "cumulative effect".

Dave: "...so unless JB and Tim had Frank on ignore, some pertinent postings were missed by accident."

Once again pointing to the problem with how everyone reads forums in different ways. It's neither of your assumptions. I didn't have him on ignore. I didn't miss it by accident. Back then I simply didn't care to read every post by every person on the forum. I would read teh people I found interesting based one whatever random criteria I built by surfing the place. When you assume I have someone on ignore, it implies a snub. When you say it's an accident, it implies I missed something "pertinent". Not pertinent to me - pertinent to Frank maybe and the people who read Frank, but not me at the time. But the minute he prints this out and hands it off himself, now I'm involved and I didn't chose it.
I don't know Frank, I can't remember his posts. I want to emphasize this because as far as I know, he's a wonderful guy. I have nothing againast him personally. If anything, he's OK in my book becasue he tried to do a Really Good Thing. But I don't think I did anything wrong in not reading a message board comprehensively. I think it's worth mentioning i have a problem with it because even though he was well intentioned, he crossed the line for me. Maybe if it wasn't Gregg A. and was someone I didn't meet, I would be fine. But I met Gregg A. and liked him a lot. This is not how I wanted it to go down.
