I had laser eye surgery. You could probably class that as cosmetic…

••

"Cosmetic" is to make you look better, not see better!!

I have never seen anyone on your makover shows that went better. Teeth don't look white as sugar cubes.

Well I'd rather hear you becoming a metrosexual compared to the polar opposite...black socks and shorts, also known as blacksoxual. I've instructed my family to shoot me the day they see me mowing my yard in shorts and black dress socks.  This is obviously the phase in a man's life when any form of fashion and/or concern with how we look has apparently left the building.  :)

A simple solution to a greying beard is to shave it off, that will also make you look younger! I don`t for one minute believe that a cream will remove your turkey neck, save your money! It annoys me that cosmetic firms con people (women especially) with made up names like `Soundscientificium` for products that are basically moisturisers, which in a base form can be bought for very little. We had an experiment in Chemistry when i was at school...a certain brand of ink contained a secret ingredient called `Ingredient X` that supposedly made it superior to other brands,we did all the chromatography etc to discover that it was in fact water! We also made a decent moisturiser ourselves with Lanolin.

So are you just eating right now or do you also compliment this with some sort of exercise, JB?

I hear that in the ads for laser/lasik and in my opinion they are playing on the vanity of the prospective customer. So cosmetic.....no. Vanity and sense of self worth, yes.

But isn't most cosmetic surgery for vanity and self-worth? You don't really need that nose job or tummy tuck. To go back on my previous statement, the eye surgery was both. Cosmetic and practical. Cosmetic because I didn't have two big pieces of dirty glass on my head and practical because it ended my eyeglass headaches and blurry vision and fogged up glasses. Win-win.

Unless you somehow assume it is natural to wear glasses, going
without them would hardly be considered vanity. Choosing a particular
style of frames almost certainly falls into that category, tho, as with any
other fashion choice, however minor.

Would a knee replacement be considered cosmetic? It helps you walk better, in the same way the eye surgery improves vision. If it's about function first, then appearance second, it's not cosmetic surgery.

Knee replacement is reconstructive surgery. A distinction is made between,
for instance, breast implants made necessary by radical mastectomies,
versus breast implants chosen to make the boobs bigger.

I don't know why but I take great enjoyment that, as I type this, the "John Byrne - Metrosexual" thread has 25070 views.
