How wonderful! You learn new ways to be supercillious towards the
characters every day!

Don't they also refer to them as 'Capes' at DC?

I must be a sad boy, I kind of like it.

I've noticed in Marvel comics now the government refer to super beings as "capes".

An affectation that I find quite annoying wherever I find it.

Nemesis and Talisman (she didn't before, but she has had a cape recently).

How Many DC heroes sport capes? Even in the classic JLA the capes were in the minority. Capes: Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter Red Tornado and Zatanna (post fishnets and top hat) No capes: Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Atom, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Elongated Man, Firestorm. Wings: Hawkman and Hawkwoman.

==========================================

Speaking as a Brit (or a Scot) I tend to find this is the case. There are a huge number of British writers who seem to want to work in the American comic market, but have no respect for the characters, conventions or conceits of the genre.

They appear to want to try and be clever and take the piss out of these characters, with subtle digs and swipes that a great deal of "fan boys" snigger at.

At least in DC the minority includes the most powerful and the most mythic heroes.

Wouldn't the Marvel cops tend, if the term is intended to be perjorative to tar all 'superhumans' with the term 'mutants'?

•••

Who is super, other than superheroes (and villains)? This is clearly an
attempt to come up with a term of reference, a la "supers" in THE
INCREDIBLES, but finding that most obvious one is taken. Anything rather
than use the venerable "superhero" itself. That might be too respectful,
after all.

"Okay, I've finished shitting all over the characters for this month. Can I
have my check please?"
