The whole thing admittedly sucks though, Fred. I'm reminded of what JB said about insurance and his vast collection of original art. Financial compensation, while good in its own way of course, just doesn't compensate for a lost piece of art that is in its very nature irreplacable and unique.

I get it completely. I am surprised by how emotionally invested I became in a piece of art that I had not only never seen, but am not even sure what character it is/was.

As everyone who deals in logistics that I know has told me:
Never, ever trust your shipments to UPS.

Al - when Amazon UK had sent a package with UPS a while back, I was more than surprised to find a note inside where it said that they'd left the package with my neighbour. Now, as my neighbour is a very kind old lady, this was not really a problem, but it left me wondering... if I have not authorised somebody to accept deliveries for me (and especially if the person in question is not situated in my apartment, that is the relevant address), how can the company hand over the package to said person? If the person refuses to hand over the package by saying, "no I did not receive anything", or opens it up and either damages the contents or steal parts thereof (or at least makes it nigh impossible to judge if the damage was done after or prior to delivery), will UPS accept responsibility and handle the situation? Or would they consider it delivered, although they'd failed to accomplish a proper delivery? Imagine if your neighbour is definitely not somebody whom your on friendly terms with... the result could get well out of hand fast.

As some of you know, I am a HUGE JB Batman fan. A buddy of mine sent me these roughs by John. This is an incredible glimpse, imo, of the creative process John uses to come up with the stunning work we get to enjoy in our comics. The final cover can be seen in the gallery. These appear to be concepts

I think these images are all the more relevant because of the current art challenge. Same scene but different views

It's fascinating how much JB's style is apparent even in such rough sketches. If I hadn't just been told those were by JB, and couldn't see the signature at the bottom, Batman's mouth in the third sketch would have made me certain it was JB instantly.

Here are some pages I bought from Paul Ryan. These are from JB's run as writer.
